How Do I Fade These red Spots? 😔 #SkinConcerns

#lemon8challenge #skincareinsider #askderm #skinconcerns

I've been struggling with post-acne red spots for 6 months now. I have combination skin (oily T-zone, dry cheeks).

What I've tried:

- Vitamin C serum (The Ordinary) — 3 months

- Niacinamide — 2 months

- Sunscreen daily — yes!

The spots are fading SLOWLY but I want faster results.

Should I try:

- Azelaic acid?

- Chemical peels?

- Laser treatment?

Dermatologists and skincare experts — what's your recommendation? Any products that actually work for PIH?

... Read moreDealing with post-acne red spots can be really frustrating, especially when progress feels slow despite consistent skincare efforts. From my experience and what’s commonly recommended by skincare experts, patience is key, but there are definitely ways to gently accelerate fading. Since you’ve already incorporated vitamin C serum, niacinamide, and daily sunscreen—which are excellent foundations—adding azelaic acid could indeed be beneficial. Azelaic acid is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to reduce redness and pigmentation, making it a solid next step. Start with a lower concentration to ensure your combination skin tolerates it well, especially since oily and dry areas may react differently. Chemical peels can offer faster visible improvements by exfoliating the top layer of skin and promoting new skin growth. However, professional guidance is crucial to avoid irritation or worsening sensitivity, particularly with combination skin. Superficial peels like glycolic acid peels can be effective and safer for at-home use or under dermatological supervision. Laser treatments are often considered for stubborn pigmentation but are usually a last resort due to cost, recovery time, and potential side effects. Consulting a dermatologist who can assess your specific skin type and spot severity will help you decide if this option suits you. Another often overlooked factor is consistent sun protection, which you’re already practicing—this cannot be overstated. UV exposure can darken red spots and prolong their healing. Incorporating gentle exfoliation with products containing ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) may also help fade spots by encouraging cell turnover, but be cautious not to over-exfoliate, as that can increase irritation and redness. Lastly, remember that skin healing is a gradual process. Combining these treatments with a balanced skincare routine tailored for combination skin and consulting with a dermatologist for personalized advice will offer the best chance for faster, effective fading of red spots.
