Cleaning my T-Rex Teeth: Before and After 🦖✨
These are all teeth that I found myself! Most of these are from just this last month! I took a break from digging and decided to clean off all of my stuff. As you can see in the second to last photo I found a lot of teeth but this post focuses on three really nice ones I found. We need to clean them because we glue them after finding them so they don’t fall apart while they are in the ground. To get the glue and dirt off we use a sand blaster machine which blasts baking soda with air and blows the chunks off. Then we dip them in vinac to make it shiny. Which one is your favorite?

Cleaning fossilized dinosaur teeth is an art that combines science and care. First, gather your finds, typically from excursions, where you may unearth numerous specimens. After locating the teeth, assess their condition before cleaning. The sand blaster is an essential tool in this process; it utilizes a mixture of baking soda and air to gently remove stubborn dirt, glue, and debris without damaging the teeth. This method preserves the fossils' integrity, allowing for effective cleaning without harsh chemicals. After sandblasting, the next step involves enhancing the shine using vinegar—a common household product that is both effective and safe for fossil care. Submerging the teeth in a vinegar bath loosens any remaining residues while imparting a shiny finish that can make your finds stand out in any collection. It's crucial to monitor the teeth during this process to ensure they don't become overly exposed to acids, which could potentially harm the enamel. In addition to these methods, proper storage and display are vital for maintaining the condition of your T-Rex teeth. Opt for display cases that protect against dust and environmental factors while allowing you to showcase your collection. Regular cleaning routines can significantly extend the lifespan of your fossil finds. Enjoy your journey into the world of paleontology, and remember to appreciate the incredible history behind each tooth!
