Montana users are having to say goodbye to lemon8😩
I have known about the TikTok ban for a really long time and I also knew that TikTok and lemon8 were owned by the same company but when I really got into lemon8 over the past year it never occurred to me what I was going to have to delete lemon8 too! While I accepted deleting TikTok I am really sad I won’t be able to use lemon8 anymore ):

In 2023, Montana passed a law banning TikTok, impacting all apps owned by its parent company, ByteDance, including Lemon8. This decision has sparked intense debate over data privacy and national security concerns. SB 419 imposes hefty penalties on app stores for violating the law, causing uncertainty among users. A US District Court judge granted a preliminary injunction, halting the law temporarily. The ruling recognizes potential First Amendment violations and jurisdictional issues under federal law. As legal challenges unfold, the impact on users in Montana remains significant. Many are worried about losing platforms they have grown to love, like Lemon8, which fosters community and creativity. With the anticipated ban on January 1, 2024, app users are left in limbo, waiting for further legal developments. Governor Gianforte has included Lemon8 in his directive regarding state devices, signaling ongoing restrictions. Users and advocates are rallying for clarity and fairness amidst evolving legislation. The situation underscores the broader implications of state-level tech regulation as debates about user privacy and app accessibility continue to gain traction.
