Do you outline your stories?

I’m curious what other writers do.

I’m working on my first novel and I didn’t start with an outline. I was too impatient and just wanted to start putting pen to paper (or keyboard to word processor?). I just had a general idea in my head of how I wanted the story to go and the main events and plot. Now I’m finding that I’m almost done and it’s way shorter than I wanted it to be.

I’m thinking maybe I need to write out a rough outline. The ideas are coming, but for some reason I’m having trouble getting it on paper. It’s weird because it’s causing a writers block but not in the traditional sense. The ideas are there, but I feel like I can’t move forward without planning things out better.

Anyone else ever dealt with that?
