Books I Read in 24 Hours + Mini Review ⌚️🤍

Here are some books that I literally read in the span of one day! If you are in a reading slump or just want some good book recommendations I would totally choose to read one of these books.

🩷 “I’m Glad My Mom Died” by Jannette McCurdy. If you have watched the documentary “Quiet on Set” then you know what the dark side of childhood stardom entails. Jannette speaks on this topic and what happened to her in her memoir. This book is so raw and I will say it will evoke some type of emotion in you as a reader. So I would read this one with caution.

🩷 “Verity” by Colleen Hoover. Okay I know that COHO gets a lot of hate. But come on most people would agree that Verity is one of her strongest books. If you like thriller, but you really aren’t a horror fan then I would suggest picking up this book. It has a really good plot that will keep you on your toes and a twist that will blow your mind.

🩷 “Love and Other Words” by Christina Lauren. Here is a book for all of my romance girlies, especially the ones that are into second chance romance. Once you read this book, you will cry. It is so heartbreakingly, beautiful, and tells the story of miscommunication and how our choices can affect our lives and the lives of other people forever.

🩷”If He Had Been With Me” by Laura Nowlin. Ok keeping with the pattern of second chance romance if you are into high school romances, then this book is for you. Most people know at this point what happens at the end of the book, but I will tell you once you read it you will not be prepared. Side note I haven’t read the second part of this book, but I heard it did not live up to the hype of this one. Let me know if you have read “If Only I Had Told Her.”

🩷 “Beach Read” by Emily Henry. I think that what I need in a romance book is some type of heartbreak. I’m not the happy happy romance girl, but I am sensing a pattern in books that I rate really high. What I like most about this book is it shows us that people we love most make mistakes as well. Sometimes we don’t find out who they are until later in life. I admire how real this book is and how it depicts true life and how messy love can be. It’s not all rainbows and sunshine, sometimes it’s not easy but that part of love can be just as beautiful.

🩷 “Suicide Notes” by Micheal Thomas Ford. I recommend this book to everyone and I mean EVERYONE that I know. This book is so funny. It has such a dark sense humor and it will not be everyone’s cup of tea. But if you love deadpan comedy you will like this book. It tells the story of a young person going through the process of overcoming a suicide attempt and his journey of getting back to his normal life. This is also a queer coming of age story, and I love how at the end of the book the character came to love who he was.

... Read moreOkay, so I know I mentioned 'Suicide Notes' by Michael Thomas Ford briefly in my quick reads list, but honestly, this book deserves a moment of its own. It's one of those books that sticks with you long after you've turned the last page, and for good reason. When I first picked it up, lured by its intriguing, almost stark white cover with those pens and a splash of red ink, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. But what I found was a brilliantly written novel with a voice that is utterly unique. This isn't your typical heavy, somber read about mental health struggles. Far from it! What Michael Thomas Ford masterfully does is infuse the narrative with such a sharp, dark sense of humor that you can't help but laugh, even at situations that feel incredibly poignant. It’s exactly the kind of deadpan comedy that resonates with me, and if you appreciate humor that tackles serious topics without shying away from them, you'll probably love it too. The story follows a young protagonist through his journey after a suicide attempt, navigating a psychiatric ward and slowly, painstakingly, finding his way back to *himself*. What really stood out to me was the raw honesty with which the character confronts his feelings, his past, and the absurdity of some of his circumstances. It's a powerful exploration of mental health, but it's also, at its heart, a queer coming-of-age story. Witnessing the character's growth and his eventual acceptance of who he is, finding love and self-worth, was incredibly moving. It’s a testament to resilience and the idea that even in the darkest moments, there's a path towards self-discovery and a 'normal life' – whatever that might mean for each of us. The way Ford structures the novel, almost like journal entries or notes, makes it incredibly engaging and, yes, a genuinely quick read. You find yourself tearing through the pages, eager to see how the protagonist will navigate his next challenge or deliver his next witty observation. It’s truly a novel unlike any other I’ve encountered, offering both profound insights and genuine laughs. If you're someone who appreciates stories that are both thought-provoking and entertaining, and you're not afraid of a little dark humor, I wholeheartedly recommend giving 'Suicide Notes' a read. It’s a powerful reminder that complex issues can be explored with nuance, humor, and ultimately, a message of hope.
