This year, I'm absolutely obsessed with the idea of a Toy Story Trunk or Treat theme! It's such a nostalgic and beloved movie, perfect for all ages, and trust me, the possibilities for transforming your trunk are endless and so much fun to plan. One of my top picks is recreating Andy's Room. Imagine blue skies with fluffy white clouds, just like in the movie, painted on a backdrop or even using blue fabric. You can add a giant cardboard box labeled 'ANDY'S TOYS' for kids to peek into, maybe even a DIY Woody or Buzz Lightyear cutout peeking out. I’ve seen some amazing versions where people use old blankets and pillows to create a cozy, messy 'kid's room' feel. It's super simple to put together with items you might already have around the house! Another fantastic option is the Pizza Planet theme. This is where you can get really creative! Think about a cardboard rocket ship, maybe some cute alien Squeeze Toy Alien cutouts, or even a mini 'claw machine' made from a box where kids can win small prizes. The key is bright colors – reds, whites, and greens – to capture that iconic Pizza Planet vibe. You can even hand out little green alien toys as treats alongside your candy. For a more rustic feel, how about Woody's Roundup? This theme is perfect if you have some hay bales or old cowboy hats lying around. A sheriff's badge, some pretend cacti, and maybe even a 'Wanted' poster featuring your favorite Toy Story characters would complete the look. I love how interactive this can be – you can have a little ring toss game with cowboy hats or even a 'gold panning' station with candy "gold nuggets." And let's not forget Buzz Lightyear's Space Mission! Decorate with stars, planets, and maybe even a 'Star Command' logo. Green army men scattered around add a playful touch. I always think about that iconic scene with Buzz and his friends. You could even have a 'laser' pointer activity for kids to aim at targets! Beyond the theme, don't forget the little details that make a Trunk or Treat unforgettable. From my experience, having a variety of treats is key. We usually have a mix of candies, just like the table I saw at a college event recently, full of goodies, glow sticks, and small toys. Those glow sticks are always a huge hit, especially as it gets darker! And speaking of decorations, don't shy away from adding some classic Halloween flair like friendly skeletons and spiders, which I’ve seen used effectively even at campus events – maybe not a 'BIOHAZARD' bucket, but some fun textured items! Remember that friendly devil mascot and ghost costume I saw? Costumes are half the fun! Whether it's a child dressed as Bumblebee or an adult as Alvin, seeing everyone get into character truly brings the spirit to life. Planning a mini 'KIDS CAMP' section with activities or a fun photo op can also add to the interactive experience. Just make sure whatever you choose, it's safe and enjoyable for all the little trick-or-treaters!
