Many people expect God’s presence to always feel like warmth, peace, goosebumps, tears, or a strong emotional experience. Sometimes He does work that way. But often He doesn’t.
Faith isn’t measured by how strongly you feel Him. Faith is trusting Him even when your emotions are quiet.
Think about people in Scripture:
* David cried out, “Why, Lord, do You seem far away?”
* Job searched for God and couldn’t sense His presence.
* Elijah expected God in dramatic signs, but God came in a gentle whisper.
* Even Mother Teresa wrote about long seasons where she felt spiritually dry despite serving God faithfully.
Also, sometimes when we desperately want to feel Jesus, we unintentionally focus so much on the feeling that we miss the reality of His presence.

Instead of dramatic signs or overwhelming emotions, I sometimes sense His guidance through subtle, everyday moments—like a verse in my Bible that suddenly resonates deeply or an unexpected opportunity opening up just when I need it.
One powerful way I’ve seen God speak is through peace that surpasses excitement or feelings. This peaceful confidence has helped me take important steps forward, even when I lacked strong emotions about the decision. It's a gentle assurance that everything is in His hands.
Another meaningful form of God speaking is through changes in circumstances. For instance, a closed door that initially felt disappointing later turned out to protect me from hardship, while a new connection or advice from a mature believer has sometimes confirmed God’s leading in my life.
I’ve also learned that longing to 'feel' Jesus can sometimes backfire, making me miss the real presence He promises. So now, during prayer, I try to shift my focus from seeking feelings to trusting His word, saying: "Jesus, whether I feel You or not, I trust that You are here because You said You would be." This mindset has helped me maintain faith even when my emotions are quiet.
Ultimately, God’s ways of speaking challenge us to grow in trust beyond emotional highs and lows. Like figures in Scripture—David, Job, Elijah, or Mother Teresa—faith involves embracing God's presence even in silence or spiritual dryness. Through Scripture, peace, circumstances, and prayer, God continues to guide and speak, inviting us to walk by faith, not by sight or feeling.
