Best 3 Places to Have Pasteis in Portugal 🇵🇹
Pastel de nata is one of it not Portugal’s most famous pastry and your trip really won’t be complete without trying at least one. Here are some of the popular ones with my favorite at the end:
🍮 Manteigaria - 7.5/10, bit too sweet for me with the crust on the harder side
🍮 Castro - 8.5/10, I like the crust here better it has a nicer texture and crunch and the custard bit more balanced
🍮 Pasteis de Belem - 10/10, also the most popular and for a good reason. the quality of the pasteis here is truly on another level - while I could only eat half to 1 full pastel for the other two, I could easily down 3 pasteis from this place.

When visiting Portugal, enjoying the local sweets is an essential part of the experience, and pasteis de nata stands out as the crown jewel. Known for its crisp pastry shell and creamy custard filling, this iconic pastry has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The original recipe from the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon has inspired countless variations. Manteigaria is beloved for its sweet and crunchy versions, making it popular among locals and tourists alike. Castro Atelier offers a textured crust and balanced custard, appealing to those who prefer a less sweet experience. However, Pasteis de Belem is arguably the most famous, drawing crowds for its rich flavor and creamy filling that leaves a lasting impression.
