This is a psychological state that they often call Man Child or Peter Pan Syndrome. It doesn't mean he's lazy or stupid, but he's using his inner childhood as a shield to escape the real world. It's sad to think about it, because these people tend to stick to the word "one day." They talk about a fancy future all the time, but they never start doing anything today because they're afraid of mediocrity, afraid of starting over, or having to accept criticism from others.
Carl Jung, a psychotherapist, once described it very sharply, that this group of people are living a temporary life, or Provisional Life, like an actor who is full of repertoire and does not stop but does not open the curtain because he is not perfect. The imaginary potential he created will collapse. Here I think it is a trap for the word talent. Many people have been praised as good since childhood. Deep down, afraid of being ordinary, afraid of starting from scratch, not going out to do anything, so it becomes the best way to protect themselves because the unused potential is the only thing that will never fail.
But the truth is more cruel, because growth is to choose one path and give up the other. But these people often try to keep every choice for themselves. In the end, it turns out that life never goes anywhere. In fact, what's more, they often use the unfairness of the economic system as an excuse so they don't have to choose to do anything. In the end, it's to let fear steal their lives.
Now, when it comes to relationships, it ends again. At first, he may be very attractive, but when his marriage is responsible or boring routine, he becomes uncomfortable because he feels that the boundaries of love are tightening, so he chooses to disappear or Ghosting to start a new relationship in a dating app to avoid learning to live with reality.
Personally, I think it's very interesting to leave this cycle, because it's not about killing a child in itself, it's about bringing the discipline of an adult hand in hand with the dreamer of that child. In the end, the beautiful potential in the imagination is not comparable to the work that may be scratched, but it's what we've really done in the world.
