A Simple Way to Understand Racism

Racism isn’t just “someone being mean.”

It’s when bias gets backup from friends, adults, and the rules themselves.

If you’ve ever wondered why “intent” doesn’t cancel out impact, this analogy might help.

Read it like a high school story… because that’s exactly how it plays out.

... Read moreFrom personal experience, I found understanding racism can be challenging until I realized it’s not just about individual unkindness but about how biases are supported by larger systems. Imagine a school where one group of students is unfairly targeted by a bully. When teachers punish that group unfairly or create rules that benefit the bully’s friends, the problem is no longer just one mean kid but a whole system stacked against the targeted group. This is systemic racism. In my own community, I observed how policies that seemed neutral on the surface sometimes disadvantaged certain racial groups more than others. For example, a seemingly simple rule about dress code or tardiness enforcement might disproportionately affect students from minority backgrounds due to varying cultural norms or economic challenges, creating unintended disadvantages. This experience highlighted why it’s important to look beyond individual intent. Someone might claim they “treat everyone the same,” but if their actions or the rules support unequal treatment, the impact can still be harmful. It’s like the analogy where the bully denies unfair treatment, yet the targeted students still face harsher consequences. Through discussions and self-reflection, I learned that recognizing systemic racism helps us advocate for fairer policies and more awareness among educators and peers. It also encourages creating environments where all students feel safe and supported. Educating ourselves and others, listening to lived experiences, and questioning existing rules are crucial steps toward addressing racism at both personal and systemic levels. In summary, racism is more than just meanness; it’s about how bias backed by power and rules can create patterns that harm specific groups. Understanding this helps us take meaningful action toward equity and social justice.

The image displays text explaining the basic principle that banks don't just hold money but move it, lending and investing deposits for profit.
The image lists four primary ways banks make money: through loans, various fees, investments using customer deposits, and small fees from card swipes.
how banks make money (explained simple) 💰
nobody really explains how banks make money — they just tell you to “save” and call it a day 😭 the truth is, banks don’t actually make money by holding yours. they flip it. every deposit you make gets loaned out, invested, and multiplied. they pay you maybe 1–3% interest for “saving,” then
