How I’m studying comfy today for my OB exam!

Studying today for my OB exam! Got myself all nestled on the couch with my laptop open on the PowerPoint, textbook, and ATI maternal newborn nursing. I just make sure to have all the tabs laid out the way I like and get myself something to snack on and drink and get lost in my notes and reading! I always make sure to take time for breaks as well and stretch! #lemon8diarychallenge #lemon8challenge #studytips#nursingstudent #notetaking

... Read moreStudying for an OB exam can feel incredibly daunting, especially with the vast amount of information on maternal and newborn care. That's why creating a comfortable, yet focused, study environment is an absolute game-changer for me. It's not just about being physically cozy; it's about setting up a space that promotes deep learning and reduces stress. My ideal study setup starts with the right ambiance. I prefer soft, indirect lighting – think a desk lamp with a warm glow rather than harsh overhead lights. This creates a cozy, almost 'grimrose' like mood that helps me feel relaxed yet focused. I make sure my couch is piled with pillows and a soft blanket, allowing me to shift positions comfortably without losing my concentration. Even on a couch, good posture is key to avoid fatigue during long hours. I try to keep my immediate study area tidy; a clear space often leads to a clear mind. When it comes to materials, my laptop is always open, usually displaying lecture PowerPoints on topics like "Variations in Head Size and Shape." I find it incredibly helpful to review these slides alongside my "ATI Maternal Newborn Nursing" textbook. These resources are invaluable, and I don't just passively read them. I actively engage by highlighting, making notes in the margins, and cross-referencing information. Handwritten notes are another essential part of my process. There’s something about physically writing things down that helps solidify the information in my brain. I use a spiral notebook specifically for my OB material, jotting down key concepts, definitions, and even drawing diagrams to understand complex processes. I often use different colored pens to categorize information – for example, one color for critical assessments and another for nursing interventions. This active note-taking, especially when dealing with detailed topics in newborn nursing care, really boosts my retention. To keep my energy levels up and my mind sharp, strategic snacking and hydration are non-negotiable. I always have a water bottle nearby and healthy snacks like nuts or fruit. Avoiding sugary drinks and heavy meals helps prevent that post-lunch slump. Perhaps most importantly, I build in regular study breaks. It's so easy to get lost in the material, but stepping away for 5-10 minutes every hour or so is crucial. I use this time to stretch, walk around, or simply close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. Sometimes, I’ll even do a quick mindfulness exercise to reset my focus. These breaks aren't a waste of time; they're an investment in sustained concentration and preventing burnout, which is particularly important when preparing for a high-stakes exam like OB. By combining a comfortable, focused environment with active learning strategies and mindful breaks, I've found a routine that not only helps me absorb complex information like maternal newborn nursing care but also makes the study process much more enjoyable and less stressful. It's all about creating a personal system that works for you to maximize your learning and confidently approach your exams.
