Lemon8’s Homophobia Problem
I’ve been on Lemon8 for a few months now. I only post music related content but I love to follow all kinds of different subjects on here, with there being so many talented and interesting content creators! However, there is a huge issue with the homophobic and bigoted comments strung throughout this app. Mostly directed at LGBTQIA+ people and POC. Especially those within the trans community. The primary culprits being heavily conservative Christians. Having this level of hate and distain for other people existence sprinkled through this app is so heavily disheartening. I have been fortunate enough to see the positivity exuded by the opposite end of the spectrum and I have not personally received any negative comments. However, I know that the ones on the receiving end of these hurtful comments, insults, and dispositions can be extremely dehumanizing and hurtful. I think the best way to combat hate on Lemon8 is to block all creators who post harmful propaganda and hateful comments to lower their reach and not give them the views and attention that they crave.
