6 Everyday Home Lessons

✨Here are six things my mom taught me at a very young age that have carried over into adulthood:

1. Leave things better than how you found them-I have always been very mindful of leaving things better than I found them, especially when I'm at someone else's home. I'll tidy up, make the bed, pick up my dishes, and return anything I used to its exact place. It shows people you respect them and their space.

2. Clean as you cook-this way you're not left with a ton of dishes to clean up all at once-the only thing you really need to worry about at the end are the dishes you actually ate off of. There's also no fighting about who's going to clean up, so its a win, win.

3. Put things back where they belong-it's such simple habit but saves you from clutter later on. If it takes less than a minute to put away, I'll put it back exactly where it belongs.

4. No shoes in the house-not only are the bottoms of shoes surprisingly dirty, but keeping them off inside also helps maintain cleaner floors/less maintenance, especially if you haver small children crawling on the floors and touching everything.

5. Take care of the things you do have-she always said it doesnt matter if something is brand new or 20 years old-you still need to treat it with respect. How can you truly appreciate something new if you can't care for what isn't? This mindset has carried over into everything I own, and makes a big difference in how I treat my home and belongings.

6. Make your bed every morning-even if it's the only thing you accomplish all day, at least you'll feel like you've done something. It also just makes your space feel more put together and sets positive tone for the rest of your day.
