Daily Devotional: Nourished by the Word
We understand what happens when we neglect physical nourishment. Eventually, our bodies will grow weak, tired, and unable to function the way they were designed to. The same is true spiritually.
So many believers are trying to fight spiritual battles while starving spiritually.
We look for strength in motivation, comfort in distractions, peace in other people, and fulfillment in accomplishments, yet still feel empty inside. Why?
Because our soul was never designed to live apart from the Word of God.
Jesus compared God's Word to daily bread. Bread sustains life; it nourishes, it strengthens, and it gives what is needed for the day ahead. In the same way, Scripture feeds the inner man.
The Word corrects us when our thinking drifts. It comforts us when we feel weary. It reminds us of truth when lies grow loud. It gives wisdom when we feel confused. And it renews strength when our spirit feels drained.
Sometimes we expect one sermon a week, one encouraging video, or one emotional moment with God to sustain us indefinitely. But spiritual nourishment was never meant to be occasional.
Just as our bodies require consistent meals, our spirit requires consistent time in God's Word.
Not every moment in Scripture will feel emotional or dramatic. Some days reading the Bible may feel quiet and simple. Yet even then, God is still feeding you. Nourishment is not always immediately felt...but over time, it changes you.
The more you consume the Word the more your heart begins to hunger for what is holy instead of what is empty.
When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He fought the enemy with Scripture. Not feelings. Not opinions. The Word. He showed us that spiritual strength comes from being filled with what God has spoken.
If you feel spiritually exhausted today, don't only seek relief...seek nourishment.
Open your Bible. Sit with God. Feed your spirit with truth.
Ask yourself:
What have I been feeding my mind more than God's Word lately?
Am I spiritually nourished or spiritually exhausted?
How can I intentionally spend more time in Scripture this week?
Because a nourished soul is far stronger than a distracted one.
"Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts." - Jeremiah 15:16
