My College Dorm🫶🏻
I just moved in to college today!
I’m majoring in Dietetics and i’m so excited🤍
We went very crazy and my roommates mom bought the majority of our decor which i’m so appreciative of💞
Moving into a college dorm, especially a shared one, can feel a little overwhelming, but it's also incredibly exciting! As someone who just went through it, I wanted to share some more insights and tips beyond my initial room tour, especially since so many of you are curious about shared dorm room setups and decor. One of the biggest questions I had was how to make 'BOTH OF OUR BEDS' feel cohesive yet personal. My roommate and I actually found a great balance! We both agreed on a neutral base for our bedding – those cozy brown blankets and white bed skirts you saw in the pictures were perfect. Then, we each added our own touches. I love the floral wall decals above my bed; they add such a soft, welcoming vibe without being overpowering. My roommate went for some beautiful prints that complement the colors perfectly. The decorative faux fireplace between our beds has been a game-changer – it not only looks chic but also serves as a shared nightstand, holding our lamps and charging stations. It’s all about finding those shared pieces that tie the room together while still letting your individual style shine through. Maximizing space in a shared dorm is key. For our desk area, we made sure to utilize vertical space. My golden 'B' initial and the butterfly decals make it feel like my corner, but we share a larger vanity mirror that's super practical. We also found that under-bed storage is a lifesaver for keeping clutter at bay. And for those late-night study sessions or early morning cravings, having our compact dorm kitchen setup with the microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker is truly a luxury. We organized it with cute storage bins and those motivational signs on the wall, which always give us a little boost. Being a Dietetics major, I'm already thinking about healthy snack prep in this tiny space! And let's not forget the bathroom! Shared bathrooms require a bit more coordination. We opted for a fun, colorful curtain to brighten the space, and those storage shelves are essential for keeping our toiletries separate and tidy. And yes, that 'GET NAKED' bath mat always gets a laugh! It's these little personal touches that transform a generic dorm room into a home. The full-length mirror near the door, with the 'GOOD YOU LOOK GOOD' rug, is another favorite spot for quick outfit checks before heading out. My biggest piece of advice for anyone decorating a shared college dorm room is to communicate with your roommate early on. Talk about your aesthetic preferences, what essentials you both need, and what you're willing to share. This helps avoid conflicts and ensures both of you feel comfortable and happy in your new home away from home. It's amazing how much personality you can pack into a small shared space with a little creativity and teamwork. Good luck with your own dorm transformations – it's an exciting journey!
