Becoming a mother is supposed to be one of the most joyous times in a woman's life, filled with excitement, anticipation, and the incredible support of those closest to you. For many, that includes their own mother – a guiding hand, a source of comfort, and someone who's 'been there.' I truly believe that those who have their mothers by their side through pregnancy and childbirth are incredibly privileged. For me, my journey into motherhood has been a little different. I'm one of the many who had her baby away from her mother, and it's an experience that brings a unique blend of joy and profound longing. My heart aches when I think about all the moments my mom isn't here for. I wish she could have felt my baby kick for the first time, or helped me pick out tiny onesies. I imagine her beaming at my baby shower, sharing stories of my own childhood. Every milestone, from the first ultrasound to the day I held my newborn, was bittersweet. There's an empty space beside me that only she could fill, a comfort I miss deeply. That last photo we took together two years ago, smiling in the car, feels like yesterday and a lifetime ago all at once. I miss her presence, her advice, her laughter. But even in her absence, I've found an unexpected wellspring of strength. The OCR text about gaining strength through challenging experiences truly resonates with me. Navigating pregnancy and new motherhood without her has forced me to be incredibly resilient. I've had to lean on myself, my partner, and my incredible friends in ways I never thought possible. They've become my village, helping me through the sleepless nights and joyous firsts. I've learned to trust my instincts, to find my own rhythm as a mother, and to connect with my baby in a way that feels uniquely mine. I've also found ways to keep her memory alive. I talk to my baby about my mom, showing them pictures and sharing stories. I wear a piece of her jewelry, a tiny reminder of her love. It's a way of honoring the incredible bond we shared, even as life forced us to 'fly from the nest' in such a painful way. Her spirit, her love, and her strength continue to guide me, and in many ways, motherhood has made me feel even closer to her, understanding her sacrifices and unconditional love more deeply than ever before.
