Interning at the Outdoor Adventure Learning Centre (OALC) provides a unique blend of practical teaching experience and outdoor education. From my experience, working alongside seasoned Outdoor Adventure Educators (OAEs) not only helps develop leadership skills but also enhances teamwork and communication abilities. During the 3D2N camp with Punggol View Primary School, the interns were actively involved in managing group activities, ensuring safety protocols, and encouraging students to push their boundaries while having fun. Activities like rope courses, team challenges, and nature exploration teach valuable life skills such as resilience and collaboration. One crucial aspect often overlooked is the importance of hygiene and safety during such camps. A small note to all interns and facilitators: remember the mantra 'Wash your hands' thoroughly before meals and after each activity to maintain health standards in the outdoors. Participating in such internships gives students a deeper appreciation for experiential learning methods and inspires confidence when working with diverse groups. It's rewarding to see interns grow into confident leaders who can motivate and support young learners effectively. Overall, these experiences profoundly impact personal growth and professional preparation for future roles in education and adventure-based learning.
