Processing my grief

My middle son chose to end his life in Feb of 2023, and then I lost my dad to Parkinson's in Sep of 2023. It's a daily struggle to work through my losses. To honor them both, I put together this memorial on our front porch. Finding items that reminded me of them was cathartic, and I'm sure they are looking down from Valhalla smiling at the finished project.

It’s important to recognize that everyone experiences grief differently, and there is no ‘right’ way to mourn. Finding healthy outlets for your emotions, such as creating memorial spaces, can be tremendously beneficial. Many people find solace in expressing their grief creatively. Whether it's through art, writing, or building memorials, engaging with your feelings can facilitate the healing process. In times of loss, it can also help to connect with support groups or communities that understand these emotions. The process of integrating memories into daily life is crucial. You can honor loved ones by participating in activities they enjoyed or establishing new traditions in their memory. Taking these steps not only keeps their legacy alive but also promotes emotional well-being. Always remember that seeking professional help is a valid and strong option, ensuring that the grieving process leads to healing and acceptance.

What does it mean to suppress vs. process grief?
Have you ever tried to hold it all together when your heart was breaking? We distract ourselves, stay busy, or pretend we’re fine — but grief doesn’t vanish. It lingers quietly in the body, asking to be seen. The moment you face your grief with grace and compassion, we begin to soften. Love r

Grief is a beast I hate more than anything. My mother lost her partner very unexpectedly a few days ago and it has been a blur. He was a good man, who took my mother in when no one else could. He loved her and spoiled her any way he could. They never had much money, but they were happy. He made sur

why grief can feel like anger
