... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my powerful Winter Solstice ritual, I wanted to share some thoughts on how to create your own sacred space for divination, especially focusing on a tarot reading setup. I know many of you are curious about incorporating elements like candles and crystals, and it truly makes a difference in deepening your practice.
When I prepare for a tarot reading, whether it's for myself or a friend, setting the atmosphere is key. Think of your space as an extension of your intention. A simple wooden table can become a powerful altar with the right additions.
Choosing Your Candles for Tarot:
Candles aren't just for light; they bring a specific energy. When I set up my space, I often choose colors based on what I want to manifest or focus on during the reading. For example, white candles are fantastic for purification, new beginnings, and general clarity – a staple on any sacred altar. Red candles, like the ones I used, can represent passion, energy, or protection. You can also use blue for intuition, green for abundance, or purple for spiritual connection. Placing them strategically around your tarot spread helps to define your sacred circle and focus the energy. Remember to always be mindful of safety when lighting candles!
Incorporating Crystals into Your Tarot Reading Setup:
Crystals are incredible energy amplifiers and protectors. There are so many beautiful stones, each with its unique vibration. For a tarot reading setup, I love working with:
Amethyst: Placed near your deck or under your dominant hand, it enhances intuition and spiritual awareness, helping you connect with higher guidance.
Clear Quartz: A master healer and amplifier, it can be used to cleanse your space, clear your cards, and magnify the energy of other crystals.
Black Tourmaline or Obsidian: Excellent for grounding and protection, especially if you're exploring heavier topics. I usually place these at the corners of my reading space.
Selenite: Perfect for cleansing your deck and space, bringing a sense of peace and calm.
You can arrange them intuitively around your tarot spread, or even place specific crystals on certain cards to amplify their message.
Preparing Your Tarot Deck and Space:
Before you even lay out your cards, take a moment to cleanse and connect with your deck. I like to shuffle my cards with intention, asking my question aloud or silently. The wooden table you use can be adorned with a special cloth, symbolizing the sacredness of your practice. Sometimes I'll add an incense stick – like palo santo or frankincense – to purify the air and elevate the energy, just as you saw in some of my setup photos. These small details really make a difference.
Personal Touches and Offerings:
Your altar or reading space should feel uniquely yours. Don't be afraid to add personal items that hold meaning for you. For Winter Solstice, I included a bowl with an apple, which for me symbolized connection to the earth and nourishing my spiritual growth during the darkest time of the year. These personal elements deepen your connection to the ritual. Even having a beloved pet, like a watchful black cat, nearby can add a comforting presence.
Ultimately, the best tarot reading setup is one that makes you feel grounded, connected, and open to receiving messages. Experiment with different elements, listen to your intuition, and create a space that truly supports your divination journey. Happy reading!
