Nurses eat their young!

No no let’s be so for real… that saying is a sorry excuse for older generations of nurses to treat the baby nurses coming on shift like 💩 and it all starts with nursing school. Be kind to each other in nursing school. Try and be uplifting to each other. I’m in my last semester of my program and I’ve seen it all and more.

These are tips that worked for me and might not work for you but, I feel they could be universal! I hope choosing the path of nursing is fulfilling for you in your future life as it feels for me. I think in my next post I’ll talk about what it’s like to be at my age and starting her dream career.

Have a great day everyone and good luck studying future nurses! Lmk in the comments if these are helpful and share them with your fellow students.

... Read moreNursing school can be a challenging and competitive environment, often marked by stress and pressure from both coursework and clinical experiences. The phrase "nurses eat their young" reflects an unfortunate reality where some seasoned nurses may treat newer nurses harshly. However, fostering kindness and uplifting each other from the start can change this narrative significantly. One effective approach is forming a trusted support system. The OCR content highlights the importance of having at least one dependable friend during nursing school to make the experience more enjoyable. It also emphasizes joining or forming study groups that suit your learning style, while cautioning against blindly joining groups that may not be supportive. Self-care remains paramount throughout nursing education. Prioritizing rest, nutrition, and mental well-being should be integrated into study routines to prevent burnout and cognitive fatigue—"Nap time" and taking care of your body are not luxuries but necessities. Avoid procrastinating on assignments, as falling behind can cause additional stress and impair learning. Practicing hands-on skills in labs and self-checking understanding ensures that theoretical knowledge translates into clinical competence. Honesty about your effort and study habits will help you identify areas needing improvement, enhancing your overall performance. By promoting a culture of encouragement rather than competition, nursing students can help break the cycle of negativity often experienced in clinical settings. Building resilience, maintaining professionalism, and supporting peers ultimately contribute to a more positive and fulfilling nursing journey.
