Low tox kitchen

Decided I want to share more of our low tox living. We don’t do it perfectly but we have done a lot to lessen our toxin exposure. Here is some of my favorite low tox kitchen items.

Living a low tox lifestyle in the kitchen is a gradual but rewarding journey. One of the things I've found most beneficial is switching to stainless steel and glass utensils and cookware. These materials don't leach harmful chemicals, unlike many plastics, especially when exposed to heat. For example, I replaced my plastic coffee maker with a stainless steel and glass French press, which not only eliminates the worry of mold and plastic piping but also enhances the flavor of my coffee. Another key change is choosing non-toxic candles. I personally prefer beeswax and coconut oil candles infused with essential oils because they burn cleaner and avoid the synthetic fragrances found in many commercial options. It's a small shift, but it contributes to better indoor air quality. When it comes to kitchen appliances, I avoid microwaves when possible by using toaster ovens or air fryers for reheating food. These appliances tend to be more energy efficient and don't expose food to microwaves’ radiation. Storage is also crucial. Glass food storage containers keep food fresher and free from plastic contamination. Plus, they are easy to clean and durable. Regarding dish soap, finding a truly effective but low tox option can be tricky. I've tried a few brands, some better than others, but recommendations are always welcome. My routine includes avoiding products with harsh chemicals and opting for plant-based, biodegradable formulas whenever possible. Organic, mold-free coffee is another staple, ensuring that what goes into my body supports my overall health goals, free of pesticides and contaminants. Overall, these small but intentional changes make me feel more comfortable and confident about the food I prepare and the environment I create. It's about progress, not perfection, and every little step helps in reducing toxin exposure at home.
