The 32nd Noroshi Relay from Emuyama
Designer Miki Hino headed to the event venue of "Noroshi Relay from Mt. Emu."
From the observation park at the top of Mt. Emu, smoke is burned with drums and smoke is raised that no one can see. It is a strange festival that the organizer says that there is no meaning.
I was allowed to experience the work of collecting grass, pushing it into a drum and raising white smoke.
Watching the smoke melt in the sky while struggling with unfamiliar work gloves, I became innocent.
"Oh, this is what 'meaningless' means."
At the end of the day, "Nozomoyaki" was served at a stall at the venue. When I ate it, it was smoked cheese.
I see, because it smokes with smoke, it's burning with smoke.
When I got home, my body smelled smoke.
I got smoked.

私も過去に同様の煙を使った伝統的なイベントに参加した経験がありますが、絵夢山ののろしリレーのように『意味はない』とされながらも人々が集い楽しむ祭りの持つ独特の魅力に強く惹かれました。 特にドラム缶に草を詰めて煙を上げる作業は、見た目よりもずっと体力と集中力が必要でした。慣れない軍手をはめての作業は手が滑ったり汗ばむこともありましたが、煙がゆっくり空に溶けて消えていくさまを見ているうちに、日々の雑事を忘れられ、まさに無心になれたのです。 また、煙と切っても切れない燻製料理の魅力を再認識しました。『狼煙焼き』はチーズの燻製で、ほんのり香ばしく、食べると口の中に煙の香りがふわっと広がります。地元の屋台で振る舞われるこの料理は、伝統行事の締 めくくりにぴったりで、参加者の交流も深まる温かなひとときでした。 煙のにおいが帰宅後もしばらく体に残り、まるで燻製になったような不思議な感覚も体験できました。こうした体験はなかなか日常では味わえない貴重なものです。 絵夢山ののろしリレーは奇祭として一見意味がなさそうに思えますが、参加者同士のつながりや自然との一体感、そして非日常を感じることができる素敵なイベントです。もし機会があればぜひ皆さんも参加して、煙に包まれるひとときを体験してみてください。
