Wood Floor Restoration
If you've just refinished your wood floors, here are some key steps to follow post-refinishing to ensure they cure properly and last a long time:
1. Allow Proper Drying & Curing Time
Water-based polyurethane: Wait at least 24 hours before light foot traffic and 7 days before placing furniture.
Oil-based polyurethane: Requires 48-72 hours before walking and 2-4 weeks for full curing.
2. Limit Foot Traffic
Avoid walking on the floors for at least 24-48 hours (depending on the finish).
Use socks instead of shoes for the first few days.
3. Wait Before Placing Furniture & Rugs
Furniture: Wait at least 7 days (water-based) or 2-4 weeks (oil-based). Use furniture pads to prevent scratches.
Rugs: Avoid placing rugs for at least 2-4 weeks, as they can trap moisture and slow curing.
4. Maintain Proper Ventilation
Keep windows open and fans running to help with odor and curing.
5. Avoid Cleaning Too Soon
Do not use wet mops or harsh cleaners for at least 30 days.
After the curing period, use a pH-neutral wood floor cleaner for maintenance.
