nobody tells you about the middle part

the part where you've started but you can't see results yet.

where you're doing the work but your body looks the same. where you're trying so hard but nothing feels different.

I've been holding planks this week. and I hate planks, honestly. everything in me wants to drop. but I stay.

and here's what I'm figuring out: staying in the discomfort of a plank is teaching me something way bigger than core strength.

it's teaching me that I can be uncomfortable and not run.

I can feel the burn and breathe through it. I can want to quit and choose to stay.

this is spiritual work disguised as fitness.

the chrysalis phase isn't pretty. the caterpillar literally dissolves into protein soup before it becomes a butterfly. it's messy. it's uncomfortable. it's supposed to be.

→ morning practice: 15 min stillness, just observing discomfort

→ when you want to run, breathe into it

→ ask: what is this trying to teach me?

I'm learning that transformation happens in the uncomfortable middle. not in the before and after photos.

we're in the chrysalis together. learning to stay even when everything says run.

... Read moreMany people start fitness or personal improvement journeys full of enthusiasm, but soon become discouraged when visible results don’t appear right away. This often happens in what can be called the "middle part," where the initial motivation begins to wane because the body or circumstances seem unchanged. It’s a universal experience, captured well in that image that says, "this is where I always quit." This stage tests patience and mental strength more than physical ability. Holding a plank, as the original post shares, is a powerful metaphor. Planks are tough and uncomfortable, requiring you to confront the impulse to give up. But beyond physical core strength, enduring that discomfort teaches an essential life skill: the ability to face discomfort without fleeing. This practice helps one to develop mental resilience and emotional endurance, crucial components of sustained personal growth. This phase is akin to the chrysalis stage in a butterfly’s transformation—a messy, uncomfortable period when the caterpillar dissolves before becoming a butterfly. It is not glamorous, and it is naturally difficult, but it’s a necessary part of transformation. Recognizing this biological analogy can help us to accept the discomfort rather than resist it. To navigate this middle part effectively, consider incorporating intentional mindfulness practices. Starting with 15 minutes of stillness each morning, simply observing discomfort rather than trying to escape it, cultivates awareness and patience. When facing the urge to quit, breathing deeply and asking, "What is this trying to teach me?" shifts focus from pain to growth. Transformation is rarely about dramatic before and after photos; it’s about what happens in the in-between — the invisible internal changes that build deep, lasting change. Learning to stay present and committed in the uncomfortable middle stage fosters not only physical transformation but also spiritual and emotional growth. If you’ve found yourself quitting at "this is where I always quit," know that embracing the challenge of the middle part means you’re stepping closer toward real transformation. This journey is about embodying resilience, growing through discomfort, and ultimately becoming your strongest self — both inside and out.
