This is something moms ARENT told for their baby 🥰

3/10 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my own journey as a new mom, learning the safest and most effective ways to introduce solids to my baby was eye-opening. One key lesson I wish I had known earlier is the importance of prioritizing iron-rich foods by around six months. Natural iron stores in babies drop significantly at this age, and including meat, beans, lentils, eggs, and dark green vegetables daily really helped my little one's energy levels, growth, and immune strength. Another surprising insight was that bigger pieces of food are actually safer than tiny bits. Initially, I thought small pieces would be easier for my baby to handle, but learning that babies who don’t yet have a pincer grasp can better manage larger pieces (around 1.75 inches) helped prevent choking hazards while encouraging self-feeding skills. It’s important to remember that gagging is normal—it’s a protective reflex that teaches swallowing and helps babies learn safely. Unlike choking, gagging is noisy and helps caregivers intervene early if needed. Introducing allergens early was also a game changer. Incorporating common allergens like peanut, egg, dairy, fish, soy, shellfish, tree nuts, and wheat early on, and repeating exposure regularly, significantly lowers the risk of developing allergies later. This was reassuring because many moms worry about introducing these foods too soon. Additionally, offering water with meals (about 2 ounces a day) is useful not only for swallowing but also for preventing constipation, even though milk remains the primary drink under 12 months. I also realized that purees alone don’t develop a baby’s chewing skills adequately. Switching to more textured foods by 8 to 9 months stimulated both motor skills and brain development, and my baby enjoyed experimenting with different tastes and textures. Throughout this process, apps like the Tummi app made tracking foods, allergens, and reactions so much easier and safer, helping me feel confident in my baby’s food journey. Overall, these insights have made feeding times more relaxed, safe, and fun, encouraging healthy habits right from the start.
