You need this as a new mom

4/23 Edited to

... Read moreStarting solid foods can be an exciting yet challenging milestone for new moms. From my experience, balancing nutrient-rich ingredients while ensuring safe textures is key to helping your baby enjoy mealtime and thrive. The focus on healthy fats like avocado, sweet potato, and plain yogurt really stood out to me because these foods provide essential DHA and other fats crucial for brain development. Including iron-rich options such as beef, chicken thigh, salmon, and fortified lentils, paired with vitamin C-rich fruits like mango or strawberries, significantly improved my baby’s iron absorption and energy levels. I found that following portion guides by age helps manage feeding expectations without pressure. Around 6 months, introducing 2-3 tablespoons of varied solids allows babies to explore flavors and self-feeding habits. Progressively increasing portions and textures from 7 to 12+ months accommodates growing appetites and developmental needs. Apps and tools like the Tummi app mentioned can track allergens and food safety, which gave me peace of mind during this transition. Vitamin D supplementation and consistent hydration also proved essential for my baby’s healthy growth. In addition to breastfeeding and formula, ensuring complementary solids provided adequate protein, calcium, and key vitamins like zinc and folate helped support cognitive and physical development. Overall, incorporating these nutrition insights and safe feeding practices helped me feel confident and informed through each stage of my baby’s early nutrition journey. Sharing this knowledge can empower other new moms to nurture their little ones’ health and happiness with each bite.
