I don’t do schedules

Babies on a schedule?? Not here.

Hear me out - I was addicted to schedules with my first baby…and it ruined the joy. And guess what? She still was a terrible sleeper. We did the dark room, the sound machine, naps and feeds on a schedule, strict bedtime routine - and the only this it was, was misery.

I told myself I wouldn’t follow a schedule if I had a second baby and here we are.

We contact nap, baby wear, nap anywhere but the bassinet, feed on demand, do bedtime when he’s tired. I haven’t followed a single wake window or don’t anything you’re “supposed” to do, except listen to my babies cues.

He knows what he needs.

So tell me, do you follow schedules with your baby?

2025/12/13 Edited to

... Read moreChoosing not to follow a strict baby schedule can feel liberating and nurturing for both parent and child. Rather than adhering to rigid wake windows or feeding times, responsive parenting encourages tuning into the baby's natural rhythms and cues. Many parents who abandon traditional schedules notice a decrease in stress and an increase in genuine bonding moments. Babies communicate their needs through signals such as fussing, yawning, or rubbing their eyes, which can be powerful indicators for feeding or sleeping readiness. Instead of following a one-size-fits-all timetable, embracing these cues allows flexibility, helping your baby feel secure and understood. Research also suggests that strict scheduling might not improve infant sleep quality as much as once believed. Some infants thrive better with a more fluid routine, adapting their sleep and feeding times naturally. This approach respects each baby’s individual temperament and developmental pace. In practice, contact napping—holding your baby close while they sleep—can soothe and foster closeness, while babywearing allows you to respond quickly to their needs while maintaining mobility. Feeding on demand rather than set times ensures the baby’s nutritional needs are met without pressure. This style of caregiving can be liberating for parents who felt overwhelmed by the expectations of strict regimes. It transforms caregiving into a responsive and joyful experience, reducing anxiety around schedules and promoting a peaceful household atmosphere. Ultimately, the key lies in trusting your parental instincts and observing your baby carefully. Creating a nurturing environment that honors your child’s natural signals leads to a happier, healthier experience for both parent and child.

Not even a little. I completely follow babies cues and they’re SO happy. From 2m they’ve slept 10-5am
