When should you splurge on shoes?

If you answered YES to all of these questions:

•Is it made of quality materials, like leather? Leather is very durable, it’s helps with moisture, and it is the only material that can be stretched and return to its original shape.

•Is it a timeless style? Meaning will you be able to wear it season after season, year after year? The longer you are able to wear a shoe the more bang for you buck you’ll get!

•Will you wear it more than once? Aside from bridal shoes ( I understand many want a shoe specifically for that one day) if you can only think of one time to wear it, I would pass. But if you can think of all the potential events/ outfits you’ll wear with them then they’re worth it. For example, if you pay $300 for a pair of shoes, and you end up wearing them at least 20 times in a year that’s only $15 per wear.

Girl math 😎

If you answered no to all of these questions, you can still splurge if you want to! Shoes are fun and if you love them and can afford them, get ‘em!

... Read moreHey Lemon8 fam! Following up on my last post about when to splurge on shoes, I've had so many of you ask about specific dilemmas, like choosing between those classic ballet flats and the latest trendy sneakers. It's a real fashion challenge, right? We all want our shoes to be an investment, something that lasts and makes us feel great every time we wear them. So, let's dive deeper into how I navigate these choices, focusing on durability, longevity, and true fashion investment. For me, the "classic vs. trendy" debate often boils down to asking those key questions we talked about: quality materials, timeless style, and wearability. Classic Ballet Flats: Think about a beautiful pair of leather ballet flats. They might cost more upfront, but if they're well-constructed (like some I've seen from brands similar to Dune or even some ECCO comfort styles), they offer incredible versatility. They pair effortlessly with jeans, dresses, or work attire. The durability of quality leather means they can be resoled, cleaned, and conditioned, extending their life for years. This is where the 'longevity' aspect really shines – they don't go out of style, making them a wise investment in your wardrobe. My "girl math" says a $200 pair worn 50 times a year for 5 years is pennies per wear! Trendy Sneakers: On the other hand, those eye-catching, chunky sneakers or unique minimalist designs are so tempting! They definitely add a modern edge to an outfit. However, trends can be fleeting. When considering trendy sneakers, I ask myself: "Is this a trend that aligns with my personal style, or will I regret it next season?" If it's a silhouette that resonates deeply with me, and the materials are still decent, then it might be a worthwhile "fun splurge." But for true investment, I lean towards sneakers that have already proven their staying power (think classic white leather sneakers) or those from brands known for comfort and durability, sometimes even incorporating elements seen in Kurt Geiger London's more casual chic lines. True investment fashion isn't just about spending a lot of money; it's about the value you get over time. A $50 pair of shoes that falls apart after three wears isn't an investment. A $300 pair that you love and wear for years, across countless outfits, absolutely is. When I'm looking at shoes, I consider how they'll integrate into my existing wardrobe. Will they elevate multiple looks? Will they still feel chic in five years? For me, a well-made pair of classic pumps or versatile ankle boots often wins out in the long run compared to something that's strictly "of the moment." I've learned that investing in core pieces allows me to experiment with more affordable, trendy accessories without feeling like my whole wardrobe is disposable. Now, about "should store shoes" – this is crucial for getting the most out of your investment! You wouldn't buy a luxury car and leave it out in the rain, right? The same goes for your quality footwear. Keep them clean: After each wear, especially for leather shoes (like those Gianni Bini beauties!), give them a quick wipe down. For sneakers, a gentle brush or damp cloth works wonders. Use shoe trees: For leather shoes, shoe trees (cedar is best!) help absorb moisture and maintain the shoe's shape, preventing creases. This is a game-changer for longevity. Dust bags & boxes: When not wearing them, store your shoes in their original dust bags or boxes. This protects them from dust, light, and accidental scuffs. I try to avoid just tossing them in a pile! Proper environment: Store shoes in a cool, dry place. Avoid direct sunlight or damp areas, which can damage materials, especially leather and delicate fabrics. Rotate your shoes: Don't wear the same pair every day. Giving your shoes a day or two to air out helps them last longer. By consciously choosing quality and then taking care of them, you're not just buying shoes; you're building a sustainable and stylish wardrobe that serves you for years to come. What are your favorite shoe care tips? Let me know!
