Daily Bread 🍞
Matthew 4:4 – “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Today’s food for the body + soul.
Matthew 4:4 reminds me that as much as I love a warm homemade meal my spirit needs the Word even more.

📸 Recipe: 🍞 Homemade White Bread with Crispy Golden Egg Wash
Ingredients (for 2 loaves):
• 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
• 2 ¼ cups warm water (110°F)
• 2 tbsp sugar
• 1 tbsp salt
• 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted butter)
• 6–6½ cups all-purpose flour
⸻
Instructions:
1. Activate Yeast:
Mix warm water and sugar in a large bowl. Add yeast, stir gently, and let sit until foamy (5–10 mins).
2. Make the Dough:
Add salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour. Mix, then slowly add more flour until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead:
Turn onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 mins (or use dough hook 5–6 mins) until smooth.
4. Let it Rise:
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
5. Shape Loaves:
Punch dough down, divide into two equal pieces. Shape into loaves and place in greased 9x5 pans. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 mins.
6. Preheat Oven:
Set oven to 375°F.
7. Brush with Egg Wash (the last 10 mns)
In a small bowl, whisk 1 egg yolk
Brush generously over each loaf (don’t forget the sides if you want that full shine!).
(Optional: sprinkle with flaky sea salt, sesame seeds, or herbs.)
8. Bake:
Bake for 25–30 mins, or until deep golden brown.
Loaves should sound hollow when tapped and crust should feel crisp to the touch.
9. Cool on a Rack:
Remove from pans immediately to keep the crust crispy.
Let cool uncovered.
To store them put them in an air tight container and put in the fridge every night. Bread should last 1 1/2 weeks. To freeze, do the same. Syracuse
