New Hampshire fall weekend itinerary šŸ‚

There is so much to do in the beautiful state of New Hampshire during the fall! From hiking, unique stay experiences, and scenic train rides!

- Artists Bluff trail is a super popular and easy scenic hike in the white mountains! It takes less than 30 minutes to reach the summit and has amazing views of the rolling mountains and a small lake! Beware parking can be difficult during peak seasons as this hike is a popular one!

- Stay at Postcard Cabins Blake Brook! I stayed here with my boyfriend for one of our anniversary’s and it was such a relaxing getaway! Each cabin has a full bathroom with hot water and everything you need to cook meals including a small stove top!

- Take a scenic train ride through the forest! We took the Conway Scenic Railroad and it was spectacular! The train even runs in the winter months to offer a Santa’s holiday express experience! These tickets are currently on sale and start at $27 for adults and $21 for children! Ages 1-3 are free!

New Hampshire

... Read moreHaving explored the magnificent White Mountains during peak fall foliage, I can tell you it's an experience everyone should have at least once! Beyond the popular spots, there are so many hidden gems and classic activities that truly make a fall weekend unforgettable. My goal is always to find those perfect moments, and New Hampshire in autumn delivers in spades. While Artists Bluff trail offers incredible, picture-perfect views that are easily accessible (as mentioned in my main itinerary!), the White Mountains boast a vast network of trails for every kind of adventurer. If you're looking for a slightly longer hike with equally rewarding vistas, I’d suggest exploring portions of the Franconia Ridge Trail or heading to Mount Willard for breathtaking panoramic views of Crawford Notch. Remember, fall hiking means cooler temperatures, so dressing in layers is key, and always check weather conditions before heading out. Don't forget sturdy boots and water! The vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows against the backdrop of the mountains are truly spectacular from any vantage point. Staying at Postcard Cabins Blake Brook was such a treat, providing that cozy, rustic-yet-modern feel. But if you're planning your own White Mountains fall itinerary, you have a wealth of other options too! I’ve heard wonderful things about charming bed and breakfasts in towns like Jackson or North Conway, which often include delicious homemade breakfasts – perfect for fueling up before a day of exploration. For those seeking a bit more luxury, boutique hotels offer spa services and fine dining. Or, if you're a nature lover like me, consider booking a glamping tent or a cabin with a fireplace for those crisp fall evenings. Waking up to the sound of rustling leaves and crisp mountain air is truly magical. The Conway Scenic Railroad is an absolute highlight, letting you soak in the scenery without the stress of driving. However, if you have a car, you absolutely must drive the Kancamagus Highway, often called "The Kanc." This 34.5-mile scenic byway offers unparalleled views of the fall foliage, with numerous overlooks, hiking trails, and picnic areas along the Swift River. I always recommend planning extra time for stops, especially at Sabbaday Falls or the Pemigewasset Overlook. Another fantastic option is exploring the multitude of quaint covered bridges scattered throughout the region – they make for perfect photo opportunities and add to the quintessential New England charm. No fall trip to New Hampshire is complete without indulging in some local flavors. I love visiting local apple orchards for apple picking and fresh cider donuts – there’s nothing quite like it! Many farms also have pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and hayrides, which are perfect for families or just for getting into the autumn spirit. Explore the charming downtown areas of towns like Littleton or Meredith, where you can find unique boutiques, art galleries, and cafes serving up warm drinks. Look out for local craft fairs or harvest festivals that often take place during the fall, offering handmade goods and delicious regional treats. To truly maximize your White Mountains fall itinerary, a little planning goes a long way. Foliage typically peaks from late September to mid-October, but this can vary year to year, so always check the latest New Hampshire foliage reports before you go. Accommodations and popular activities book up *fast*, especially on weekends, so I highly recommend making reservations well in advance. And don't forget to pack layers – mornings can be chilly, afternoons sunny, and evenings cool, so versatility is key to staying comfortable throughout your fall adventure!
