Accepting my adult body

I have always been fairly thin and never worried about what I looked like. But here I am 27 almost 28 and I have a belly and I'm no longer a size 3 like I was in my senior year of highschool. Or a size 5 like I was when I was 21 and met my boyfriend. I can wear about a size 9 now. And it's hard to imagine my freshman year and sophomore year I could barely fit into a size 1. It's really hard for me to accept that I will never be that thin again. Once I started wearing a size 7 during covid my confidence disappeared. And it continued until 3 years ago when I started going to the gym. I decided if I'm gonna weigh more I'm going to try to turn it into muscle and today that's where I am. I'm on a journey to get healthy and I wanna be buff. So what? Now I wear a size 9. it doesn't look bad now that I've been working out. It's fluctuated in the last 3 years because my dad got sick with cancer and that's how I dealt with the stress that came along with it. But during that time I was on family medical leave and I had plenty of time to spend in the gym when I wasn't with my family. My dad has officially been gone for 2 years and the last year I started really struggling with my mental health again. So here I am trying to get back on track. This is my reminder that we all grow when we get older and it's how we handle it that makes us or breaks us. I'm tired of my weight making me feel bad and having emotional break downs every time I go clothes shopping. I'm not a teenager anymore or even a young adult anymore. I'm a full grown adult. Now it's time for me to accept it and move on and try to be the healthiest version of myself I can be. #bodytransformation #Lemon8Diary #embracevulnerability #shareyourthoughts #healthylifestyle2024 #unfiltered

... Read moreIt's truly a journey to accept the adult body we find ourselves in, isn't it? Our bodies evolve, reflecting our experiences, our stress, our triumphs, and even our grief. What I've learned on my own path is that true body acceptance isn't about fitting into a certain size or chasing an elusive ideal of "beautiful beauty body," but rather about cultivating a deep respect and love for the vessel that carries us through life, in all its forms. One of the biggest hurdles for me, as shared in my journey, was the emotional rollercoaster of clothes shopping. It felt like a constant reminder of how my body had changed. My advice? Let go of those old sizes. Seriously. Those numbers on a tag don't define your worth. Instead, focus on finding clothes that fit your current body comfortably and make you feel amazing. Whether it's a comfy "cropped t-shirt" and "denim shorts" that hug you just right, or a stylish pair of "ripped jeans" that make you feel confident, invest in pieces that celebrate who you are now. Embracing your unique style, maybe even experimenting with fun elements like different hair colors or expressing yourself through "tattoos" or a "skull-patterned tank top," can be a powerful act of self-love. It's about owning your aesthetic and feeling good in your skin, regardless of the number on the scale. Beyond clothing, it’s about shifting our perception. My journey to the gym started as a way to "turn it into muscle" and get "buff," but it quickly transformed into something more profound. It became about mental strength, stress relief, and celebrating what my body *could do*, not just what it looked like. Find movement that brings you joy – whether it's lifting weights, dancing, hiking, or yoga. It's about honoring your body with activity, not punishing it for its shape. This shift from aesthetic goals to performance and well-being has been incredibly liberating. Another powerful tool in my acceptance journey has been curating my social media feed. It’s so easy to fall into the comparison trap, especially when scrolling through endless filtered images. I actively seek out accounts that promote body neutrality, size inclusivity, and diverse representations of beauty. Seeing real bodies, with all their glorious imperfections, reminds me that there's no single definition of a "beautiful body." Taking a "mirror selfie" can be an empowering act when done from a place of self-acceptance, celebrating your uniqueness rather than scrutinizing flaws. Finally, remember that mental health and body image are deeply intertwined. My own struggles with mental health during difficult times highlighted how crucial it is to address both. Seeking support, whether from friends, family, or professionals, is a sign of strength, not weakness. This journey of "accepting my adult body" has been far from linear, with ups and downs, especially during periods of stress and grief. But each step, each moment of self-compassion, builds resilience. It’s an ongoing conversation with yourself: a commitment to nurture your body and mind, celebrating your evolving self, and truly believing that your unique "beautiful beauty body" is perfect just the way it is.
