A week ago, this little filly was rolling in the auction yard, and my stomach dropped. If you’ve been around foals long enough, you know that roll.
It’s the kind that tells you something is wrong. She had been born at the sale barn, was uncomfortable, struggling, and needed help fast.
Thanks to every single person who stepped up when we asked, we were able to get her the care she needed, including plasma, IV fluids, pain medication, and the support necessary to give her a real chance. Today, just one week later, look at her. Happy. Bright-eyed. Comfortable. Safe. Thriving.
This is why we do what we do. This is why we show up, even when the days are long, the odds feel impossible, and our hearts are stretched in a thousand directions.
In their case, all the difference between tragedy and a future was a group of people willing to care.
Over the last seven days, together, we saved 36 horses. Thirty-six lives that now have a chance they didn’t have before. If they could speak, I know every one of them would thank you personally. Since they can’t, let me do it for them.
Thank YOU for believing in them. Thank YOU for showing up. Thank YOU for being part of this incredible mercy horses family — they are living because of your kindness. ❤️ #HorseWelfare #HorseCharity #Mustang #HorseRehab #HorseSupport #LoveHorses
Witnessing a newborn foal struggle in an auction yard is a heart-wrenching experience few can forget. From personal experience volunteering at equine rescue centers, I’ve seen firsthand how critical those first days are for foals born in harsh conditions. The difference between life and death often hinges on the rapid response of caring individuals and timely medical intervention, such as administering plasma, IV fluids, and pain relief. When a foal is born in a sale barn or auction yard, environments filled with stress and uncertainty, complications like discomfort, weakness, or illness can arise quickly. Foals are incredibly fragile; even slight abnormalities in their behavior—like the concerning type of roll described—signal urgent need for veterinary care. That moment when an entire community rallies to provide the necessary support—whether through donations, fostering, or hands-on care—is when miracles happen. The power of collective compassion cannot be overstated. This group effort resulted in 36 horses, who otherwise might have faced a tragic fate, now having a future filled with hope. Each foal’s recovery—from fighting infection to regaining strength and confidence—reflects not only expert rehabilitation but an emotional investment from everyone involved. Moreover, sharing these stories helps raise awareness about the plight of mustangs and horses at auction, inspiring others to support horse welfare through donations and advocacy. If you ever get the chance to visit a rescue facility or participate in rehabilitation programs, you’ll realize how every small act—like a donated bottle of plasma or time spent comforting a frightened foal—makes an immeasurable difference. The images showing "A newborn foal's first day of life should not look like this... It should look like this" evoke a powerful reminder: Every foal deserves a safe start, surrounded by care and kindness. Let us keep supporting these incredible creatures and the dedicated people who save them, turning moments of despair into stories of survival and love.
