RUNNING CHALLENGE ✨💪🏼

2023/4/13 Edited to

... Read moreStarting a running journey can feel like a huge step, but I'm here to tell you it's totally achievable, and honestly, so rewarding! Like many of you, I've had moments where the idea of running felt overwhelming. Today, I completed my first mile of a new challenge, and it felt amazing to just get out there and do it. If you're pondering 'how to start running,' here's what I've learned that might help you kick off your own adventure. First things first, don't feel pressured to run a marathon on day one. My challenge started with just one mile, and that's a perfect goal for anyone. The key is consistency and listening to your body. When I first tried to run, I made the mistake of going too fast, too soon, and ended up discouraged. This time, I'm focusing on a comfortable pace, even if it means incorporating walking intervals. This run-walk method is a fantastic way to build endurance without burning out. Try running for 1 minute, then walking for 2 minutes, and repeat for 20-30 minutes. Over time, you can gradually increase your running intervals and decrease your walking. Investing in proper gear, especially good running shoes, made a huge difference for me. My feet and knees used to ache, but once I got fitted for shoes that suited my stride, it was a game-changer for comfort and preventing injury. You don't need a fancy outfit, but supportive shoes are non-negotiable. Also, consider breathable clothing to stay comfortable, especially as the weather changes. Motivation can be tricky. Some days, it's hard to even get out the door. What keeps me going is setting small, realistic goals, like finishing this 1-mile challenge. Tracking my progress, like noting my 9:48 mile time today, gives me a sense of accomplishment and fuels my desire to improve. I also find that listening to my favorite upbeat music or a captivating podcast helps the miles fly by. Sometimes, planning to run with a friend or joining an online running community (like our Lemon8 #runclub!) provides that extra push and accountability. Remember, every step counts, no matter how slow or short. Finally, don't forget the importance of warming up and cooling down. A few minutes of dynamic stretches before my run, like leg swings and high knees, prepares my muscles. Afterwards, some static stretches help prevent stiffness. Hydration is also crucial; I try to drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially before and after my runs. Starting a running habit is a journey, not a sprint. Be patient with yourself, celebrate every small victory, and most importantly, enjoy the process of becoming stronger and healthier. I'm excited to see your progress – let's inspire each other!

I haven’t timed my mile in a little over a year but Have improved a lot since then. I was running a CX race and my first mile was 7:00 flat. The year before my pr for just the mile was 7:20. And I was exhausted, shows what hard work can do in a short amount of time.

My best advice is to start slow and run/walk 2-3 times a week! Slowly decrease your walking amount each time and increase your running amount! I struggled getting my first 2-4 miles but I was going out way too fast so my body got too tired too early. It’s also good to establish goals. Do you want t
