Redoing paver sand is an important maintenance task for anyone who has a paved patio or walkway. Over time, the joint sand between paver stones can wash out, settle, or degrade, leading to an unstable surface and potential weed growth. From my experience tackling this, preparation is key. First, thoroughly clean the pavers by sweeping away debris and using a pressure washer if possible to remove stubborn dirt and old sand residues. It's crucial to let the surface dry completely before applying new sand. I found that polymeric sand, which hardens when moistened, offers excellent durability and helps prevent erosion and weed intrusion compared to regular sand. After compaction, remove any excess sand from the surface to prevent staining and mist lightly with water to activate the curing process if using polymeric sand. Consistent maintenance, such as inspecting and topping off sand periodically, extends the lifespan of your installation. Additionally, safety measures matter; always wear protective gear like gloves and a dust mask when handling fine sand materials.
