Happy Independence Day

Wow, can you believe the 4th of July is almost here again? For me, this official US holiday truly embodies the spirit of our nation's birth, and it’s one of my absolute favorite times of the year. There's just something magical about coming together with family and friends to celebrate Independence Day. I always start my 4th of July by decorating! Out come the red, white, and blue streamers, banners, and of course, our beautiful American flag. It’s not just a decoration; it’s a symbol of everything we're celebrating. I remember one year, my grandpa told us stories about what the flag meant to him, and it really stuck with me. It’s moments like those that make the holiday so special. Then comes the food – oh, the food! Outdoor meals are a must. Whether it's a casual backyard BBQ with sizzling burgers and hot dogs, or a potluck picnic at the park, sharing a meal outdoors is a core tradition for us. I love trying out new patriotic-themed recipes, like a berry trifle with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream – it looks like the flag and tastes amazing! There's something so comforting about the smell of grilling and the sound of laughter echoing through the yard. As the day winds down, the anticipation builds for the fireworks. This is, without a doubt, the highlight for many people, including me! Finding the perfect spot to watch the sky light up with dazzling bursts of color is an annual quest. Whether it’s a professional display at a local park or just some sparklers in the backyard (always with adult supervision, of course!), fireworks are a spectacular way to cap off the celebrations. Each boom and crackle reminds me of the joy and freedom we commemorate. Beyond the visible festivities, the 4th of July is also a time for reflection.
