The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

The Savior’s guidance, recorded in this sacred revelation, reminds us that temperance is an essential reinforcement for a firm foundation in Jesus Christ. Furthermore, cultivating temperance is a meaningful way to protect our souls against the subtle yet constant spiritual erosion caused by worldly influences that can weaken our foundation in Jesus Christ.

From my personal experience in striving to live a Christ-centered life, developing temperance has been both challenging and rewarding. Temperance, as highlighted in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, goes beyond simple self-control; it embodies the harmonious balance of mind, body, and spirit that helps us remain steadfast in our faith. Practicing temperance has helped me build resilience against negative influences and distractions that often arise in daily life. By exercising moderation in all things—whether it’s in speech, behavior, media consumption, or even food and drink—I’ve noticed a growing peace and clarity that strengthens my relationship with Jesus Christ. This virtue also complements other essential Christlike qualities such as humility, faith, hope, and charity, making it easier to live kindly and serve others. I’ve found that regular prayer, scripture study, and reflection encourage a temperate mindset, allowing the pure love that flows from the Savior to guide my decisions. Additionally, community support within the church reinforces accountability and spiritual growth. Embracing temperance doesn’t mean restriction but rather freedom—the freedom to choose what nourishes the soul and to reject what erodes spiritual wellbeing. For anyone seeking a firmer foundation in Christ, I encourage adopting temperance as a daily practice. It’s a shield that guards the heart from subtle, persistent pressures of the world, helps maintain focus on sacred covenants, and enriches our journey of discipleship.
