That's exactly what led me down the path of 3D printing for my 2WD Traxxas Slash. Seeing those custom paddle tires and skis come off my Ender 3D printer's build plate was incredibly satisfying, and the performance boost on snow has been a game-changer.
If you're thinking about diving into 3D printing parts for your RC car, here are some things I learned. For the paddle tires, I found that flexible filaments like TPU are absolutely essential. They provide the grip and durability needed to really dig into the snow, unlike rigid plastics that would just spin. For the paddle tires, it's just like mounting any other RC tire – getting them seated properly on the rim is crucial for balance, especially if you plan on running at higher speeds. Once everything was on, I took my 2WD Traxxas Slash out, and it was a blast. On hard-packed snow, it handles surprisingly well, drifting through turns and accelerating with impressive traction. While it's great on packed snow, be aware that very deep, powdery snow can still be a challenge, as the chassis might bottom out.
