February Reads!

Only read half the amount that I read in January. I didn’t have a set goal for the month, just to stay ahead of my 2025 goal (120). My favorite was the Martyr Maker series by Eriq la Salle. Bummed that I didn’t get the opportunity to read the bookclub picks, still waiting for them to become available on Libby or the library. Whichever happens first.

What was your favorite read(s) of February?

2025/3/1 Edited to

... Read moreFebruary always feels like such a whirlwind, doesn't it? One minute you're setting your reading goals, the next you're doing a wrap-up! Like many of you, I definitely didn't hit the same numbers as January, but I'm learning that it's not always about the quantity, but the quality of the stories that truly stick with you. The goal for 2025 is a long game, and every chapter counts, whether it's powering through a series or savoring a single, impactful read. Speaking of impactful reads, one of the biggest ways I discover new books is by their covers! Sometimes, just seeing a striking or intriguing book cover can instantly add it to my ever-growing TBR pile. It makes you wonder what kind of world lies within those pages, doesn't it? I've seen a lot of chatter and stunning visuals for the 'Scarlet Angel S.T. Abby' book cover lately, and it's definitely caught my eye! It looks like one of those stories that could transport you completely, and I'm always on the lookout for a book that can do that. It makes me think of other incredible covers that have drawn me in, like the powerful imagery on Ayana Gray's 'Beasts of Ruin' and 'Beasts of War,' or the intense vibe from 'Ethic' by Ashley Antoinette. Each cover tells a little piece of the story before you even open the book, hinting at the adventure or emotion inside. My favorite read of February was undoubtedly the 'Martyr Maker series' by Eriq La Salle. Those books truly gripped me, and finding a series you can get lost in is such a treat. Beyond that, my reading list is always a mix of genres, from thrilling mysteries like 'Laws of Depravity' and 'Laws of Wrath' to thought-provoking narratives such as 'The Color of a Lie' by Kim Johnson. And who can resist unique titles like 'Will You Join M&?' or 'Tall Red Dude with Tattoos II'? They just scream personality! It's a familiar struggle waiting for those highly anticipated book club picks to become available on Libby or at the library. The hold lists can be so long! My little trick is to always have a few backup books on hand, or to dive into a genre I don't usually read to keep my reading momentum going. Sometimes, those unexpected reads turn out to be hidden gems. What strategies do you use to keep your reading journey exciting and on track, especially when your most wanted books are unavailable?
