Trust the process!
When starting a new skincare routine, especially one targeting acne or exfoliation, it's common to experience skin purging. This occurs as your skin accelerates its cell turnover rate, bringing underlying clogged pores and impurities to the surface. Although it might look like your skin is worsening, purging is actually a positive sign that your skincare products are working. From my own experience, the key to overcoming this phase is patience and consistent care. Avoid switching products frequently when purging occurs; instead, gently support your skin by using soothing ingredients like aloe vera or niacinamide. Also, make sure to maintain a simple routine to avoid over-irritating your skin during this sensitive time. Documenting progress with photos can be encouraging, as improvements often become visible after several weeks. Avoid picking or squeezing blemishes, as this can cause scarring or prolong irritation. Hydration and sun protection also play vital roles in supporting skin recovery and preventing further breakouts. Understanding the difference between purging and a reaction is crucial. Purging typically lasts 4-6 weeks and appears in areas where you commonly get acne, while reactions may occur anywhere and persist longer. If you experience severe irritation or prolonged worsening, consulting a dermatologist is recommended. Remember, trusting the skincare process means giving your skin time to adapt and respond to treatments. Consistency paired with knowledge about skin purging can dramatically improve your clear skin journey.
