What I wish I knew BEFORE the rainy season started

2/27 Edited to

... Read moreThe rainy season, especially here in Singapore, used to fill me with dread. Not just because of the constant downpours, but because of what it meant for my home and my family's health. The SUPER HUMID SEASON often brought unwelcome guests: mold, damp smells, and a general stuffiness that just felt unhealthy. I've learned a lot over the years, and I want to share some "rainy season health tips" that have genuinely made a difference for me, starting with how I tackled my home environment. One of the biggest culprits during humid weather is mold. It doesn't just look unsightly; it can seriously impact respiratory health, triggering allergies, asthma attacks, and even causing irritation in healthy individuals. I used to constantly battle mold spots on my walls and ceilings. That's why discovering microcement was a game-changer. My Walls & Ceilings CAN stay dry without mould now. This material creates a seamless, non-porous, and water-resistant surface that resists moisture buildup, making it incredibly difficult for mold to take hold. It's not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating a cleaner, healthier breathing space. Beyond mold, the pervasive dampness can affect overall comfort and lead to other issues like skin irritations or making existing allergies worse. And let's not forget the persistent, musty odors! For areas like my Bathrooms, which are naturally prone to moisture, CAN be fresh and easy to clean thanks to microcement. The smooth finish means there are no grout lines for grime and mildew to hide in, making daily cleaning a breeze and ensuring a consistently fresh environment. Knowing that Microcement is Ecofriendly and has No VOC or Weird Smells was a huge plus for me. I could move back into my renovated spaces without worrying about toxic fumes, which is a major rainy season health tip in itself for indoor air quality. But a healthy rainy season isn't just about what's on your walls. Here are a few more tips I picked up along the way, complementing the structural improvements I made: Boost Ventilation: Even on rainy days, try to open windows for short periods if possible, especially after showering or cooking. Cross-ventilation helps exchange stale, humid air with drier air, reducing the overall dampness in your home. Using exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens is crucial for this. Dehumidifiers are Your Friend: Investing in a good dehumidifier can significantly reduce indoor humidity levels. I often run mine in common areas or bedrooms to keep the air feeling lighter and prevent that clammy, uncomfortable feeling. This directly combats the SUPER HUMID SEASON effects. Regular Cleaning & Drying: Don't let wet items sit around. Dry umbrellas, raincoats, and shoes immediately after coming indoors. Mop up spills promptly to prevent moisture from lingering. Regularly clean surfaces with anti-mold solutions, especially in damp corners or areas prone to condensation. Personal Hygiene: With increased moisture, fungal infections can be more common. Make sure to dry your body thoroughly after showering, especially between toes and in skin folds, to prevent skin issues. Stay Hydrated & Eat Well: Support your immune system from within. Drink plenty of water and maintain a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. A strong immune system helps your body fight off any potential illnesses that might crop up during the damp season. Mind Your Mental Health: The gloomy weather can sometimes affect mood. Try to stay active indoors, maintain social connections, and ensure you're getting enough rest. A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body. By taking a holistic approach, from ensuring my home's surfaces are protected with solutions like microcement to adopting these daily habits, I’ve found that the rainy season no longer feels like a health hazard. It's about proactive steps to keep your living space and yourself healthy, making even the most humid days bearable and pleasant.
