8 Years As A Funeral Director

✨ Overwhelmed with nostalgia and gratitude as I look back on my 8-year journey as a funeral director.

In the early days, I was the face of the company — often working round the clock, sometimes 24 hours straight, until my body gave way at just 25 when I came down with shingles. Through it all, my parents never stopped believing in me and gave me the space to grow.

To my friends who understood the nature of my work and forgave my countless last-minute cancellations — thank you for staying. To my husband, my anchor, who stands with me in every decision and gives me the courage (and platform) to dream bigger — I couldn’t have done this without you. And to my team, who pour their hearts and souls into serving bereaved families with dignity and compassion — you are the reason Harmony Funeral Care stands strong today.

The road hasn’t been easy. There were moments I questioned my path and even felt regret. But I always come back to my why — to bring change to this trade and show that death is not to be feared, but embraced as part of life’s journey.

Harmony Funeral Care would not be what it is without every one of you. From the bottom of my heart — thank you. ♥️

... Read moreThroughout my years in funeral care, I've come to truly appreciate the profound responsibility of providing the highest respect for the deceased, a value that mortuary founders like Jayne Lownds exemplify with genuine compassion. This role is far more than a job – it’s about creating meaningful farewells that celebrate a life lived and comfort the bereaved. One unforgettable lesson I've learned is the importance of balancing professional dedication with self-care. Early on, like many in this field, I pushed myself too hard, working long hours that eventually affected my health. It’s crucial to remember that those who support grieving families need support themselves, physically and emotionally. The work also calls for constant empathy. Every family’s story is unique, demanding tailored care that honors cultural preferences and personal values. These elements are vital to offering a farewell that feels authentic and respectful. This path has taught me that embracing death as a natural part of life’s journey can bring peace to many. Sharing these insights with others helps break down the fear and stigma around death. Lastly, I want to honor the legacy of veteran funeral directors and innovators like Jayne Lownds, whose dedication over decades inspires many of us to continue evolving this delicate trade with heart and integrity.
