I Started My New YearIn the Word

2025/1/1 Edited to

... Read moreIt's a brand new year, and like many of you, I feel that fresh energy to set new intentions and grow. For me, connecting with God is always at the top of that list, especially as I reflect on how to make this year truly different, truly *biblical*. It's not just about setting resolutions; it's about aligning my heart with His plan, and that starts by diving deep into His Word. I've found that simply saying 'I want to read my Bible more' isn't enough. We need a plan! This year, I'm trying to approach my Bible study with a specific goal: to understand God's character and how His timeless truths apply to my everyday life. One passage that really jumped out at me recently, and resonated with the idea of a courageous new beginning, was Matthew 14:25-27. Remember Peter stepping out of the boat onto the water? That line, 'Take courage! I AM! Stop being afraid,' really hit home for me. It's so easy to be fearful of the unknown, especially at the start of a new year with all its possibilities and challenges. But just like Peter needed to hear Jesus' words to step out, I feel like God is calling me to step out in faith this year, trusting His presence and helping hand. So, how can we truly 'start strong' in the Word? For me, it's about consistency, not perfection. Maybe it's a short devotional every morning, or carving out time each evening to read a chapter from one of the books I'm studying – like Genesis, Psalms, or Matthew, as I've been doing. I love using a study Bible because it gives so much context and helps me understand the history and meaning behind the verses. Don't be afraid to try different methods! Sometimes I'll journal my thoughts, other times I'll just sit and pray about what I've read. The key is to show up, even when you don't feel like it. This journey isn't always easy, and there will be days when life gets in the way. But knowing that I'm building a stronger foundation in God's Word gives me such peace. It's like building spiritual muscle. The more I engage, the stronger my faith becomes, and the better equipped I feel to face whatever comes my way this year. If your 'new year biblical' goal feels overwhelming, just start small. Pick a book, maybe Psalms for comfort, or Proverbs for wisdom, and commit to just a few verses a day. You'll be amazed at how quickly those small steps add up to significant spiritual growth. Let's make this a year where our faith isn't just a part of our lives, but the very foundation.
