Spin the TBR Book 1
my TBR is over 1000 books long, so I made a wheel to help me start knocking these books out
If you're anything like me, your 'To Be Read' (TBR) pile is probably towering over your bookshelf, or maybe it's a never-ending digital list! It can feel so overwhelming, right? That's exactly why I decided to create my own TBR wheel, and honestly, it's been a game-changer for my reading habits. You might be wondering, why a spinning wheel? Well, for me, the sheer volume of choices often led to decision paralysis. I'd spend more time trying to pick a book than actually reading one! A TBR wheel takes away that pressure. It adds an element of fun and surprise, turning what used to be a daunting task into an exciting ritual. It helps you rediscover books you might have forgotten about and ensures you're giving every book on your list a fair chance. Creating your own TBR wheel is surprisingly easy and can be really personalized. You can go the DIY route like I did, using a spare piece of cardboard, a brad fastener, and some colorful markers. Just divide your circle into sections and write one book title per section. If your TBR is massive, like mine, you might list genres, authors, or even broader categories like 'fantasy,' 'thriller,' or 'a book from a small press' to simplify. There are also fantastic digital options available! Apps like 'Tiny Decisions' or various online 'tbr spinner wheel' websites let you input your list virtually and spin with a click. These are great if you're constantly adding or removing books, as they're super easy to update. To make your wheel even more engaging, think beyond just titles. You could have sections for 'read a book over 500 pages,' 'pick a book by a diverse author,' or 'read a book from your oldest TBR stack.' Some people even create 'tbr cards online' with different prompts or challenges that they then pick from, which is a similar concept to a wheel. This keeps things fresh and helps you explore different aspects of your reading list. Once you have your wheel, make it a ritual! Maybe every Sunday, you give it a spin to choose your read for the week. The key is to commit to what the wheel picks, at least for a chapter or two. Sometimes the book it chooses isn't what you're immediately in the mood for, but that's part of the fun – it pushes you out of your comfort zone! If after a few chapters it's really not working, you can always put it back on the wheel for another time. I've found that this playful approach has not only helped me tackle my enormous backlog but also brought back the joy of discovery to my reading life. Give it a try, your TBR pile (and your reading self!) will thank you!
