... Read moreOkay, fellow non-skiers and first-timers, I hear you! When I first planned my trip to beautiful Stowe, Vermont, everyone asked about skiing, but my heart was set on experiencing its charm off the slopes. And let me tell you, Stowe delivers! If you're like me and looking for the best coffee, incredible brunch, and those unique hidden gems, you’re in the right place. My Top Coffee Shop Picks in Stowe: I started my mornings eager for a good brew, and Stowe has some fantastic options. Black Cap Coffee & Bakery quickly became my go-to. Their lattes are perfectly crafted, and the pastry selection is divine – seriously, try their croissants! It’s a cozy spot, great for people-watching or planning your day. Another gem is The Daily Grind. It has a more rustic, local feel, and their drip coffee is robust and exactly what you need on a crisp Vermont morning. They also have some unique local snacks. Brunch & Breakfast Bliss (Beyond the Slopes): Brunch in Stowe is an absolute must, especially after a leisurely start to the day. For a truly memorable experience, check out Butler's Pantry. This place is legendary for a reason! Their pancakes are fluffy perfection, and the Benedicts are out of this world. Be prepared for a wait, but trust me, it’s worth every minute. It’s a quintessential Stowe breakfast spot. If you’re looking for something a bit more casual but equally delicious, The Dutch Pancake Cafe offers a unique twist with their enormous, savory and sweet Dutch pancakes. It’s a fun experience and a great way to fuel up without feeling too heavy. Lunch & Dinner Delights: When lunchtime rolls around, I often crave something hearty. The Bench is a fantastic choice for gastropub fare with a local touch. Their wood-fired pizzas are amazing, and they have a great selection of local beers. For dinner, I loved Doc Ponds. It’s lively, has a great atmosphere, and their menu is creative and delicious – think elevated comfort food. Don’t miss their fried chicken sandwich! Hidden Gems & Non-Skiing Activities: Stowe isn't just about food, though it's a huge part of the experience! If you're a non-skier, definitely explore the Stowe Recreation Path. It’s a beautiful paved path perfect for walking, biking, or just enjoying the scenery. You can walk right from town past charming shops and along the river. For a unique experience, visit the Cold Hollow Cider Mill – it’s a bit outside of town but worth the drive for fresh cider donuts and apple cider. And don't forget to browse the local artisan shops downtown; I found some truly special souvenirs. What I Learned to Skip (or Adjust Expectations): While Stowe is wonderful, a few things I learned. If you're on a tight budget, some of the more upscale restaurants can add up quickly; consider splitting entrees or looking for lunch specials. Also, if you’re visiting during peak ski season but not skiing, be aware that parking can be a challenge, and popular spots can get very crowded. Booking reservations for dinner is highly recommended to avoid disappointment. Embrace the relaxed pace, and you'll have an unforgettable trip!
