Replying to @ML remind her that hormonal acne isn’t even due to your hormones… it’s why your hormones are off!!!
Anddddd please make sure that you are getting testing and working with someone that knows how to interpret things in terms of optimal ranges…there are many people that I work with that have had testing and been told their levels are normal when they’re actually high…or on the other end of the spectrum actually have low to normal levels and there are other areas of their body that we have to support to heal their skin!!
From my personal experience working with clients struggling with hormonal acne, one critical insight is understanding that acne caused by androgen imbalances isn’t simply about hormone levels being high or low—it's about the underlying disruptions in your body signaling these changes. Many people believe normal lab results mean their hormone levels aren’t affecting their skin, but optimal ranges matter, and sometimes these readings can be misleading without proper interpretation. One foundational aspect I repeatedly emphasize is blood sugar balance. Skipping meals or relying on quick fixes like protein bars without balanced carbs can trigger insulin spikes, which then increase androgen production and worsen acne. I advise clients to eat balanced meals with appropriate proteins and carbohydrates to maintain stable blood sugar throughout the day. Stress also plays a significant role in hormonal acne. Chronic stress elevates cortisol, which can exacerbate androgen imbalances. Managing stress through mindfulness practices, adequate sleep, and relaxation techniques is an essential part of care. Another often overlooked factor is gut health. The gut influences hormone metabolism, including androgens. Supporting gut health through diet, probiotics, and addressing any digestive issues can improve hormone regulation and skin health. In terms of supplements, natural options like spearmint tea, saw palmetto, and nettle can help lower androgen levels but should be used thoughtfully and based on individual hormone testing and symptoms. Not everyone benefits from the same treatments, so personalized guidance is critical. Overall, healing hormonal acne requires a comprehensive approach addressing blood sugar, stress, gut health, and individualized hormone support. Working with knowledgeable practitioners to interpret hormone tests correctly and tailor interventions is crucial for long-lasting clear skin.
