My Boho braids turned out good. What yall think?? #braids #Lemon8Diary #Lemon8 #braidstyles
Hey everyone! So, you know I love my braids, and I just finished installing a fresh set of Boho braids. I’m absolutely loving the look, and honestly, the process was so rewarding! It got me thinking about how often people ask about the difference between Boho braids and Goddess braids. It can definitely be confusing because they both incorporate curly or wavy pieces, but trust me, there are some key distinctions that make each style unique. Let’s dive into Boho braids first, since that’s what I'm rocking right now (and yes, these Boho braids were done by me!). Boho braids are all about that effortless, free-spirited, and slightly undone look. The signature of Boho braids is the way curly or wavy strands are left out of the braided sections, especially at the ends, creating a soft, voluminous, and natural vibe. Think of it as a beautiful, controlled messiness – a bohemian dream! For my braids, I used a mix of braiding hair and some gorgeous human hair curly pieces to achieve that perfect flow. The human hair really helps with blending and gives a more natural finish compared to some synthetic options. Now, let's talk about Goddess braids. While they also feature curly strands, the execution and overall aesthetic are quite different. Goddess braids tend to be sleeker, often larger, and have a more defined, regal feel. The curly pieces are typically braided into the main braid itself, or strategically placed in larger, more uniform sections. Sometimes, they are cornrows or intricate patterns where the curly parts are more integrated rather than left entirely free-flowing. The curls in Goddess braids often have a more uniform pattern, giving a polished and elegant appearance. You might see them in updos, intricate cornrow designs, or even as large individual braids with specific sections of curls woven in. So, what are the main differences if you're trying to choose? Vibe & Aesthetic: Boho braids scream 'natural beauty,' 'effortless chic,' and 'vacation ready.' They have a softer, more romantic, and sometimes even playful appeal. Goddess braids, on the other hand, often convey 'elegance,' 'sophistication,' and a 'polished' look. They can be incredibly striking and are often chosen for special occasions or when you want a more refined statement. Curly Hair Integration: With Boho braids, you’ll see those curly strands popping out frequently along the braid, and especially at the ends. They’re meant to be visible and add texture. For Goddess braids, the curly pieces are often more deliberately incorporated, either fully braided in for a textured look or emerging from specific points to create a 'goddess' crown effect, or as part of larger, smoother braids. Hair Type: While both can use a variety of hair, Boho braids often benefit greatly from good quality human hair for the curly pieces to minimize tangling and maintain that natural flow. Goddess braids can also use human hair, but synthetic blending hair is also very popular, especially for the more structured curl patterns. Maintenance: Because Boho braids have those free-flowing curly pieces, they might require a bit more daily attention to prevent tangling and frizz, especially while sleeping. Satin bonnets or scarves are your best friends! Goddess braids, depending on how the curls are integrated, might sometimes be a bit easier to maintain daily if the curls are more secured within the braids, though all braided styles benefit from proper care. Ultimately, both Boho and Goddess braids are absolutely stunning protective styles that allow for incredible creativity. Your choice really comes down to the look you’re aiming for and your lifestyle. If you’re like me and love that undone, voluminous, and super natural feel, Boho braids are a fantastic option. But if you’re leaning towards something more structured, elegant, and often with a bolder curl pattern, Goddess braids might be your go-to. What do you think? Have you tried either of these styles?
