Awful how we’ve destroyed these trees that live so much longer than us for such temporary things like shingles and fence posts or to display at museums. How selfish we are. I’m surprised any of these trees survived the industrial revolution.

And now even externally healthy trees are infested with bark beetles. 96% of surveyed sequoias had them and they happen from the trees being weakened by drought.

We should know how serious the damage we have done to our planet is. We shouldn’t sugarcoat it and act like these seedlings are going to just replace these trees. How many generations of people have to pass on before these trees get back to the size they once were if they even make it through the climate crisis

The more you love nature the more it starts to hurt knowing how fucked we are
