I’ve successfully hidden my locs under my wig🙂↔️
Okay, so if you're like me and you love the versatility of wigs but also adore your beautiful locs, you know the struggle is REAL when it comes to hiding them seamlessly. For the longest time, I thought having locs meant saying goodbye to my wig collection, but I'm literally just a girl who loves to switch up her look, and I refused to give up! After a lot of trial and error, I've finally cracked the code to rocking wigs without any bumps or bulk. My go-to method almost always starts with braiding my locs down. This is crucial for achieving that super flat base. I section my locs into medium-sized parts and then cornrow them straight back or in a circular pattern, depending on the length and thickness of my locs. The key here is to braid them firmly but without excessive tension to avoid breakage or discomfort. If your locs are really long, you might need to coil the ends and secure them flat against your scalp with bobby pins. For shorter locs, simply braiding them down tight to the scalp usually does the trick. Before braiding, I make sure my locs are freshly washed and thoroughly moisturized. A light oil or leave-in conditioner helps keep them pliable and reduces frizz, which can contribute to bulk. Make sure they are completely dry to prevent mildew or scalp issues – this is a non-negotiable step! Once my locs are braided down, the wig cap comes into play. I've experimented with different types, and I find that a thin, breathable stocking cap works best for me. Sometimes, if my locs are particularly thick, I'll even use two caps – one to lay everything down, and a second one to provide an extra layer of smoothness and protection. You want something that compresses your locs gently without feeling too tight. Some people prefer mesh caps, but I find the stocking caps give a sleeker finish. After the cap is on, I gently press down on my head to feel for any bumps or areas where the locs might be sticking out. If I find any, I'll try to adjust the braids or use a few more bobby pins to flatten them. The goal is a smooth, even surface. This attention to detail is what makes all the difference between a 'lumpy' wig and a 'what locs?' wig! It's easy to forget about your natural hair under a wig, but proper scalp care is essential, especially with locs. While my locs are braided down, I'll use a spray bottle with a mix of water and essential oils (like tea tree or peppermint) to keep my scalp moisturized and fresh. I also make sure to give my locs a break between wig wears, letting them breathe and treating them to a good wash and deep condition. Don't leave your locs braided under a wig for too long – usually 2-4 weeks is my maximum, depending on how well I'm maintaining them. Wearing wigs over locs doesn't have to be a challenge. With a little practice, the right technique, and dedication to scalp care, you can rock any wig style you desire while keeping your beautiful locs protected and thriving underneath. Trust me, if I can do it, you definitely can too!
