Hard truths to learn before the year ends

It’s time to prepare our mindset for 2025—also known as “the best year of your life..so far.” Here are 7 hard truths that make life a bit easier..

1. People-pleasing is toxic to your self-esteem.

Changing who you are to be accepted by others will leave you feeling like no one likes you for you. Be yourself, but accept constructive criticism.

2. Balancing each “yes” with a “no” prevents burnout.

We each have the same 24 hours in a day. If you say “yes” too often, you will quickly run out of time and energy. Give yourself space to think before making commitments and make decisions that align with your capabilities.

3. You will only live the life you create for yourself.

It’s your life, create a version of it that you truly want to live. No one else can do that for you.

4. You deserve to be a good mom to yourself.

Are you a gentle and loving toward yourself, or are you mean and critical? Treat yourself with compassion and those around you will do the same.

5. Anxiety and stress decrease when you accept change.

We can’t avoid change. It’s the natural part of life. When we stop resisting change, life feels more relaxed and manageable.

6. Healing can’t be done in isolation.

Everyone faces challenges. Even the people who smile everyday. Just like we can’t avoid getting sick, we can’t heal in isolation. Build a supportive community of people around you that help you during tough times. Don’t forget to help them in return.

7. Failure is part of the path to success.

You will fail. A lot. But each failure is also a lesson. Embrace it, learn from it, and apply the lessons to your next attempt. Success comes from persistence, not perfection.

These truths have helped me, and many others, live more peacefully, even when challenges arise..because they will come. But with the right mindset, you’ll get thru them and come out stronger on the other side.

Cheers to 2025!

2024/11/26 Edited to

... Read moreAs we wave goodbye to 2024, it’s natural to reflect on everything that's happened and what we hope for in the new year. I've realized that the path to truly living your best life, especially as we head into 2025, isn't always about grand resolutions. Often, it's about accepting some fundamental, at times harsh, truths about life that can radically shift your perspective and put you ahead of most. These aren't easy lessons, but they are incredibly freeing once embraced. I want to share some of my personal insights and how these truths have guided me. Conquering People-Pleasing for Good: I used to think being 'nice' meant saying yes to every request, even when it stretched me thin. This people-pleasing tendency left me exhausted and resentful. What I’ve learned is that true kindness comes from a place of authenticity, not obligation. To truly build your self-esteem, you need to honor your own needs first. Try starting with small 'no's – to an extra task, an event you don't really want to attend. You’ll find that the right people respect your boundaries, and those who don't weren't truly valuing you anyway. Mastering Your Energy to Prevent Burnout: In this fast-paced world, it's easy to constantly push ourselves. I’ve certainly been there, feeling like I needed to be constantly productive. But one of the most powerful mindset shifts I made was realizing that my energy is finite. Saying 'yes' to one thing means saying 'no' to something else, whether it's rest, family time, or a personal passion. Now, before committing, I ask myself: "Does this align with my priorities and energy levels?" This simple question has been a game-changer for protecting my well-being and avoiding the dreaded burnout that often plagues us. Taking Ownership of Your Life's Direction: For a long time, I felt like life was just happening to me. It’s a harsh truth to realize that no one is coming to save you or build your dream life for you. It's your responsibility. This realization was scary at first, but then incredibly empowering. I started small, identifying one area I wanted to change and taking a concrete step towards it. Whether it's a career shift, a new hobby, or a personal goal, remember you have the power to create the life you truly want to live. Don't wait for permission; start designing your own future. This is a key part of putting you ahead of most, as many wait for opportunities rather than creating them. Embracing Self-Compassion as Your Superpower: I used to be my own harshest critic. Every mistake was magnified, every flaw highlighted. Then I had an 'aha!' moment: Would I speak to my best friend the way I speak to myself? Absolutely not! Being a 'good mom to yourself' means treating yourself with the same kindness, understanding, and patience you'd offer a loved one. When you stumble, offer yourself grace. When you succeed, celebrate yourself. This internal shift improves not just your mental health but also how you interact with the world, as your inner peace radiates outward. Finding Freedom in Accepting Change: Change used to fill me with anxiety. I would resist it, cling to the familiar, and inevitably suffer. The truth is, change is the only constant in life. Learning to flow with it, rather than fight it, has been incredibly liberating. Instead of viewing change as a threat, I now try to see it as an opportunity for growth, a natural part of the journey. When something unexpected happens, I pause, acknowledge my feelings, and then ask, "What can I learn from this? How can I adapt?" This approach has significantly decreased my stress levels and allowed me to navigate life with more ease. Building a Support System for True Healing: There was a period when I felt I had to go through everything alone. The idea of vulnerability felt terrifying. But another harsh truth is that healing, true healing, cannot be done in isolation. We are social beings, and we need connection. Reaching out, sharing your struggles, and allowing others to support you is a profound act of strength. It could be a trusted friend, a family member, a therapist, or a support group. Building a community around you that lifts you up, and whom you can also lift up in return, is essential for navigating life’s inevitable challenges. It’s about creating a safe space where you can truly be yourself. Reframing Failure as a Stepping Stone to Success: Oh, the failures I've had! Each one felt like the end of the world at the time. But looking back, every single 'failure' was a powerful lesson in disguise. This truth—that failure is not the opposite of success, but a part of it—is monumental. It shifts your perspective from fearing mistakes to embracing them as valuable data points. So, as we look to 2025, don't shy away from trying new things because of the fear of not getting it right. Embrace the learning curve, pick yourself up, apply what you've learned, and keep going. That persistence, not perfection, is what truly puts you ahead of most and paves the way for success.
