Get out of bed faster with this yoga routine 🧘‍♀️

What’s better than scrolling on your phone first thing in the morning? A quick in-bed stretch routine followed by a moment of gratitude! ☀️ But I bet you knew that already. 😉

Now that I’ve reached 30, a morning stretch is required and yes every movement sounds like a popcorn soundtrack. This routine wakes up your body, releases overnight stiffness, and sets a positive tone for the day. And yes, it’s all backed by research showing morning movement boosts mood, energy, and focus.

Morning In-Bed-to-Standing Stretch Flow:

1. Child’s Pose (hold 30 seconds)

Start on your knees in bed, fold forward over your thighs or a pillow, and reach arms out. Gently wakes the back and hips.

2. Hero Pose (hold 30 seconds)

Sit back between your heels (be gentle on knees). This pose opens the fronts of the thighs and ankles.

3. Seated Side Stretch (30 seconds each side)

Still sitting cross-legged or in hero, reach one arm overhead and lean gently to the opposite side. Lengthens the side body and ribs for deeper breathing.

4. Seated Twist (30 seconds each side)

Twist gently toward the bent knee. Refreshes the spine and aids digestion.

5. Seated Forward Fold (hold 30 seconds)

Extend legs out in front (or keep bent if needed), hinge forward from the hips. Stretches the hamstrings and low back.

6. Standing Forward Fold (hold 30 seconds)

Slide out of bed, stand tall, fold forward from the hips, letting head and arms hang. Releases the entire back body.

7. Raised Hands Pose (hold 30 seconds)

Inhale and sweep arms overhead, reaching tall. Opens the chest and energizes the whole body. Reach as close to the ceiling as possible.

8. Namaste Pose (or Prayer) (as long as feels good)

Bring hands to heart center, close your eyes, and take a moment for gratitude. Name 1–3 things you’re thankful for today. End it with “great things will happen to me today.”

Pro tips

• Move slowly and breathe deeply. Inhale to prepare or lengthen, exhale to deepen the stretch.

• Modify anything that doesn’t feel good (use pillows, bend knees, etc.).

• Do it right after waking, before checking your phone.

Why it works

Gentle morning stretching increases blood flow, lubricates joints, reduces stiffness, and boosts endorphins. Pairing it with gratitude has been shown to lower stress and improve overall well-being.

Start your day feeling grounded and energized. 🌅

Have a great day!

... Read moreStarting my day with this gentle yoga routine has completely transformed how I wake up and face the morning. Before, I used to lie in bed scrolling on my phone, feeling sluggish and unmotivated. Incorporating these stretches—from Child’s Pose to Standing Forward Fold—right after waking up has improved my flexibility, helped reduce stiffness, and enhanced my mood significantly. What I love about this sequence is that it’s accessible even when you feel tight or sore; you can easily modify poses, like bending the knees or using pillows, to make the stretches comfortable. The combination of deep breathing during the poses like the Seated Side Stretch and Raised Hands Pose really helps me feel centered and energized. One of my favorite parts is ending with the Namaste Pose, taking a moment for gratitude. It sounds simple, but focusing on things I’m thankful for creates a positive mindset that lasts throughout the day. Research supports this: gentle morning movement increases blood flow and endorphins, while gratefulness lowers stress. Since starting this routine, I've noticed more mental clarity and sustained energy, especially on busy days. It’s a gentle yet powerful ritual that gets me out of bed faster and sets a mood for productivity and calmness. Whether you’re in your 30s like me or just want a smoother morning transition, this quick yoga flow is worth trying daily. If you struggle to find time or motivation to exercise in the mornings, this routine is perfect because it can be done entirely in bed or right beside it, taking just about five minutes. Try moving slowly and breathing deeply as you go through each pose; it really amplifies the benefits. Give yourself permission to modify any stretch until it feels good for your body. Morning yoga is a wonderful way to start the day grounded, energized, and ready to embrace whatever comes your way.
